Has anybody read this? I was recently given this pamphlet by my fiancee’s grandfather, a Baptist missionary.Seems to be a bunch of lies! Anybody wanna talk about this?

Read it a fews back! Full of errors and totally lacking serious support for many of its claims. I found it as a great novelty at best! My 5th grade niece can also write the same nonsense.

If I recall, that pamphlet is a truly weak (academically) attempt at trying to trace the Baptist denomination back to the Apostles without going through the Catholic Church.
There are many errors in it. For example, they try to trace their denomination back to the Annabaptists (and two other groups). There were no less than two, possibly three groups of Anabaptists in the history of Christianity. The group they’re trying to trace it back to believed in infant baptism, which Baptists claim not to believe.
There was another group, the Novations, believed that once you fell into sin, that was it. There was no way to get back right with God. I don’t think the Baptists believe that, either.
The third group, the Montanists, who believed that one must practice severe asceticism. Doesn’t sound Baptist to me.

I’ve read it, even have a copy of it for the same reason I have a copy of the Quran and the Book of Mormon.
Most of it is rubbish, and I can’t help but wonder if the guy did as much research as they claim in the pamphlet’s introduction. Some of the errors, like claiming Marialogy came from ecumenical councils where the Virgin Mary was never even discussed, are just hilarious.

if you as a Catholic are going to get involved with baptist, then you have to expect this kind of propoganda. peace and prayers for you.

Along with some other groups who Roman Catholics and Protestants alike would consider hardly orthodox. Dave Hunt does the same thing - I personally think he’s probably just repeating the Trail of Blood carelessly.

A lot of the people mentioned in Trail of Blood as “true Christians” are either Gnostics or in general heretics. It also talks about ecumenical councils and “many seriously objecting” to them, not realizing the ones objecting to them were the heretics (specifically, the Nestorians in the one council that the writer was trying to mention).
