From the Irish Times: “Mary McAleese says Maynooth should be ‘gay-friendly: Former president says church’s attitude to homosexuality is damaging to young gay men”

If this were not Grindr, but these individuals using for example, Tinder, and it were in regards to women not men, what then? Would the Church’s teaching regarding sexual morality, such as in regards to no sex before marriage, be blamed then?

So future priests in the seminary are using grindr to hook up with other men? And the answer is to change thier location not thier vocation!?

It’s as if we have learned nothing in the last decade.

The learning, if it has occurred, has been in the US. This is about Ireland - and they appear to be a bit behind in the learning curve.

I think the " if it has occurred" is a good qualifier. Ireland dealt with some pretty nasty stuff as well.

I’ve seen a lot to tell me the learning may not have occurred regardless of location…

For your lst statement, I agree.

However, who is it that is going to do the “kicking out”? Think about that question for a couple of heartbeats or so, and I think you will understand what I am asking…

Any test that would be relied on is going to be standardized. And any test which is standardized can be subject to being gamed.
True enough. Perhaps the rector needs some outside help with technology. It would be easy enough to discover who is connecting to the Grindr application (and Tinder for that matter) and give them some extra scrutiny.

As one elderly priest stated, at the end of mass, several weeks ago - who I and many others in the Church completely agreed with - he stated that he had attended Maynooth, years ago and greatly enjoyed his time there, however he said the OTT ‘press coverage’ of what has allegedly been happening at Maynooth was (insert word) - *I cannot recall his wording *- but words such as ridiculous/not applicable/vile, etc… are equivalent.

WHAT has this ‘story’ got to do with the national news - absolutely nothing, except Catholic church bashing and anti-Catholic titillating news, needless to say involving ‘sex’.

All the seminarians are adults, if what has been alleged did occur well let the Catholic Church deal with it in-house. The seminarians are not prisoners there, nor underage.

Are we to assume that the secular MSM are ‘so, so’ worried about all the Catholics, in Ireland that they have to let us all know with daily press/TV reports for weeks. Aye right.

As to what has occurred at Maynooth - who knows, but hopefully it will be sorted out soon.
