Hi, everyone!

I’ve been doing some discernment on a path in which I can serve the Church.

Previously, I’ve been discerning the permanent Diaconate. Now, after my consecration to the Immaculate Heart; I’m wondering if spiritual direction might be more appropriate. Considering that I want to help people and I’m not sure if mental health therapist is appropriate for me.

Can anyone tell me what’s the training necessary to be a lay spiritual director and what such a service path in the Church would look like?

Thank you all and God bless.

There are a lot of spiritual direction programs out there,. Two things to consider:

Spiritual direction is a gift and not everyone is cut out for it.

It’s not a full time job. I don’t know of anyone who supports themselves by being a spiritual director.

To me it’s not a matter of being trained in of itself, but having tasted Divine love through experience with Christ.

Spiritual maturity and wisdom don’t come from ourselves, but from the transforming grace God has given us through contemplative prayer and this is the prerequisite for becoming an effective spiritual director for others.
