Relics in the possession of the Roman Catholic Church for more than 1,100 years will be officially handed over to a Roseville Greek Orthodox Church this weekend.
Holy relics of saints Joachim and Anna – believed to be the parents of Mary, the mother of Jesus – will be given to St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church in a special ceremony Saturday at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. The event is open to the public.
“Nothing like this has ever taken place before in the region,” says the Rev. Christopher Flesoras, of St. Anna’s. “This brings a further sense of sanctity and unity to the area. It’s East meets West.”
