Transgender Bathroom Situation

I too would not share a bathroom, and I assure you I love God.
Not only that, but having small children brings much needed clarity to the situation.
Today in the NY Daily News page six an article about an attempted rape in unisex bathroom.

I was just in Lake Tahoe (I suppose if you are not from California you wouldn’t know it) and all of their bathrooms had a sign called “gender equal restrooms”. I almost barfed when I saw the regular bathroom symbol man in a skirt. Why is the world so weird.

So, apart from the bathroom situation, I have another related question for the group. How would you respond when you see a transgender person attending Mass? Let’s say they sit in your pew or in front of you. Do you just carry on like normal and wish them the sign of peace, et cetera? I myself just carry on like normal, but given some of the responses I am wondering if others would do the same.

I understand that some people have a squeamishness about the bathroom business, though I might not feel the same way.

However, men in skirts is nothing unusual. Scotsmen have worn kilts for centuries, and many heterosexual men wear them today.

I also don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of Jesus in a pair of trousers.

I just carry on and treat them the same as anyone else. That’s what I meant earlier by respecting each other. I can be pleasant and cordial, but not agree with their belief in my heart.

I have no problem with actual transgender men using the women’s restroom,** but it, unfortunately, invites any man to dress like a woman just to gain entry into a woman’s restroom. **It’s not a matter of bias, but of practicality and good sense. Many now days have their hearts in the right place but not their heads. This is a good example of it.
Someone who really thinks he is transgender–to answer your first question. Not every transgender man goes so far as to mutilate his genitals, either. A man who pretends to be transgender just to gain access to a woman’s restroom generally does so just so he can ogle women, get some perverse delight in being where he shouldn’t be, or wants to attack woman and girls when they are most vulnerable.
I think this is key:
A man dressing up as a woman to ogle at girls in the bathroom is not the same as a man dressing up as a woman because of gender dysphoria. As a woman, I’m telling you I would rather have the latter because he has no intention of hurting or objectifying me. Of course I would rather have only women in the room, but yes, there is a ‘better’ situation. A transgender over a pervert any day.
Right.

I think that’s a myth that some people believe, that any man can claim to be transgender so he can annoy women in the women’s room.

From what I’ve seen the laws are carefully drawn to prevent this from happening.

I couldn’t just go into the women’s locker room and say, “But, Officer, you don’t understand! I’m transgender!” I’m sure if I tried it I’d get into a lot of trouble.

There are many laws that are supposed to prevent many crimes, but those crimes happen anyway. Laws are no guarantee against a man pretending to be transgender in order to enter a women’s restroom. Any man can enter a restroom and commit a crime, it’s true, but letting transgender males into the women’s restroom is an open invitation for rapists to put on a dress and have access to women in a vulnerable situation. Why invite trouble merely to assuage the sensibilities of a very small minority of people? We live in a majority rule society. That means that while the rights of minorities are protected, the majority’s rights come first. There are people trying very hard to overturn that into minority rule, but, that’s not a good thing for minorities anymore than for the majority, because it means mob rule/the loudest gets what they want instead of what is best for everyone.

I feel like a man because I am a man. I have no idea what it feels like to be a woman, nor does any man. The men who say they are a woman are making an extraordinary claim. And interestingly the key to being a woman seems to be particular mannerisms, makeup and dresses.

Being mentally ill doesn’t make it not dishonest. The culpability of the person may be diminished. But we judge the acts objectively. That is how we know mental illness in the first place.
I am a man too. I don’t think this scenario has surfaced yet. Suppose I am alone in the men’s bathroom and a woman dressed as a man comes in. We can treat each other with respect while together in there but when we walk out together and she yells at the security guard “this man just fondled my genitals” …I think I would have no defense!

Because we cannot know if any man dressed as a woman is safe in a restroom, no man, no matter how he is dressed should be allowed in a woman’s restroom. I thought I made that quite clear, but I restate it here more forcefully.
Just to clarify, a transvestite is one person who dresses as another gender. A transgender person is someone who actually feels they are in the wrong body. Transgenders may or may not be transvestites.

This is true, and is why I prefer to just use the word “trans”. Obviously, a man who dresses up in women’s clothing and resembles a female impersonator is not going to want to use a men’s restroom in public, regardless of if he wishes to change genders or just likes to dress in women’s clothes. And it is not at all clear just from looking at what people have on whether they are transgender or transvestite.

Of course, the simple answer to the problem is to have restrooms set aside for everyone. They’re usually labeled “Family” restrooms, with no stalls and only one stool. and sink That way no one has to worry about which restroom to use. 🙂

I agree with this, and also with the unisex single-user restrooms which I see in many bars and restaurants. If only one person is in there at a time, there is no possible issue. My guess is we will see more of these going forward.
