daegus has saved us all a lot of cut/paste.

thanks.

the Church has spoken. whether stemming from emotional disorder, mental instability or whatever, the daughter’s behavior is OBJECTIVELY sinful.

i’ve written it before on CAF and i’ll write it again:

lifestyles founded on OBJECTIVE IMMORALITY dont happen in my house.

my kids dont deal drugs and live in my house.
they don’t hold jobs at abortion mills and live in my house.
they don’t write poison for vicious gossip websites and live in my house.
they dont opperate chop shops in my garage and live in my house.
they dont refuse to assent to the teaching authority of the Church and refuse to go to Mass and live in my house.
my kids dont shack up with partners (whatever their sex) in my house.

and my kids know i love them. and they know that i have to answer to God Himself for the examples i’ve set for their souls.

and i try to do ALL THIS with love and humility. not arguing. not bullying. i simply have to quietly adhere to the Faith which God has revelaed, pray for my kids and follow my conscience.

my kids have NEVER expected me to do anything else. they know i love them so much i’m wiling to pi$$ them off badly in this life in hopes they attain grace for the next.

My 25yr old daughter was in a lesbian relationship with a female who became a legal male with a Califorina driver’s license. They “married.” My wife and I love our daughter and respect her but have told her clearly that this behavior is morally unacceptable. The problem is that this “couple” is moving back to our home state and my wife and I feel that they should not be able to live in our house until they find a place of their own, but we have some uncertainty about it. Helpful comments would be appreciated.

Thanks
I see a different problem.

You do not have to let your 25 year old child and her partner move into your home simply because they want to move back to your state. I would say that regardless of these various moral issues and gender confussion. In some cultures it is common for parents and adult children to live together, but it is not common in our American culture.

She has been a legal adult for over 7 years. There are many reasons beyond the sexual issues you brought up that you and your wife might not want her living in your home at the age of 25. She or her partner might be too messy or too clean; there’s the lack of privacy, the cost of providing food, the inconvenience, etc.

Your daughter is asking a lot of you. She wants you to not only tolerate her alternative lifestyle, but she wants you to provide a shelter her lifestyle too. You can tell her no. It doesn’t make you a bad parent to expect your adult daughter to act like an adult.

Two things. First, if it bothers you, you should treat them like friends and room mates rather than sexual partners. Let them stay in your house if you would let your daughter and room mate stay, under the same conditions. Pretty simple, although you should discuss it with your daughter ahead of time.

I would add to that that it is important to start out on the principle you plan to continue on. If they can’t stay, can they visit? Come over for dinner? Will you visit their home? If there are kids, what then? I would think ahead about how you would feel about these things before setting a precedent now.

Two: The Catholic Church has actually not been very forthcoming about trans-gendered people. There is some direction that suggests that it may allow for Catholics to have trans-gender operations if it is seen as spiritually beneficial. This was a pastoral directive to priests counseling people, and not a doctrinal position.

In other words, the CC doesn’t seem sure about what it thinks of the issue, which is really not surprising since doctors don’t really know a lot about it either.

That being the case, it probably isn’t required for Catholics to have definite views on it either.
