NEW YORK – Students across the country are recognizing Transgender Day of Remembrance today by holding events to encourage discussions about the need to protect students against bullying and harassment based on gender identity and expression. Events range from candle light vigils to school assemblies to transgender-inclusive school trainings.
GLSEN, or the Gay, Lesbian & in recognizing Transgender Day of Remembrance, an international day of action that brings awareness to the problem of anti-transgender violence.

“Bullying and harassment because of gender expression unfortunately is a common part of school life,” said GLSEN Founder and Executive Director Kevin Jennings. “We also know from GLSEN’s National School Climate Survey that transgender students are even more vulnerable than their lesbian, gay and bisexual classmates and are more often the victims of physical attacks. Transgender Day of Remembrance offers an opportunity to bring attention to the need to ensure safe schools for all students, regardless of gender identity/expression.”

More than nine out of 10 transgender students …

Time to form/reform inexpensive alternatives to the public school system.

Ummmmm, i’m wondering about the accuracy of alot of this “bullying”. Bullying is wrong, of course, but when i was in my small town high school 10 years ago, the prevailing attitude was that gay friends are cool, get yours today! It made you look enlightened to have some. However there are always those who will pick on people who are different. Why is there a national outcry over homosexual bullying and not for giving goth kids swirlies? We should also be enacting tolerance legislation to protect people’s right to dress in black, wear too much eyeliner, and believe that life is sooooo sad.😦

Sad that a REAL issue like bullying is being liked to sexual issues. Bullying is extremely widespread in schools and is based on anything bullies can grasp to use as a stick to beat another kid down with.

I recommend the book “Please Stop Laughing at Me” to anybody who has kids older than second grade. I guarantee that if your kid is in school he/she is being
A. a bully.
B. a toady (does nothing while bullying happens or even eggs it on).
C. one of the bullied.

I’m sorry, but if a boy goes to school in a dress he will be kidded by the other boys. Part of growing up is finding out there is a difference that God made, no matter how much adults want to pretend there isn’t. Kids instinctively know that. We call that part of Natural Law. Kids call it common sense.

Thre is an outcry over gay bullying because the gays have chosen to organize to protect themselves and discourage bullying against them. There is no such activity on behalf of Goths because their adult representativs haven’t done it.

We might see Bill Donohue doing the same if there was a lot of bullying against Catholics.

Hey Hoppity, we agree! Thought it worth noting and celebrating!

Too bad such sentiment can’t be translated into a COMPREHENSIVE effort to confront adolescent bullying instead of focusing on narrow interests.

Some things start with one small seed.

Nobody deserves to be bullied but nobody needs to be transgendered either.

Reading the statement, I am wondering who is really doing the “bullying”? Sounds like they are doing the “bullying” by shoving their disorder down our throats and demanding that we accept it.

Perhaps the “disorder” would be the fear felt by those doing the “bullying”??

Ignorance is not bliss

The foot in the door is “tolerance” and “safety”. The real agenda and ultimate goal is mainstream “acceptance” of a disordered, deviant, and immoral lifestyle amongst impressionable adolescents who have not yet developmentally consolidated their psychosexual identity.

What does mainstream acceptance mean?

We were discussing similar things the other day at work and one of my co-workers (she is Pentecostal) that was quite interesting. To paraphrase…I wonder how much longer God is going to put up with our fallen world?

Just thought it was interesting when you think of how the world as a whole has gone aray.

You know nothing of what Transgender Day of Remembrance is and you are disrespecting what the day stands for. It is to mourn the loss of Transgendered individuals who have committed suicide because of how society treated them or who were murderedby evil people just for living their lives as who they are. We should mourn the wasteful destruction of life. Or do you all think that Transgendered individuals deserve to be murdered? As a Transgendered Girl, I have a 1 in 12 or 8% chance of being murdered for living my life as who God made me. Also, as a Disabled Girl, I have a 1 in 200 or 0.5% of being murdered. There is a 25% chance that, if I am murdered, the cops would have murdered me in both situations. The two highest demographics of people at the highest risk for being murdered are demographics that I am a part of. I do not deserve to die, no one deserves to die. So, I will mourn for all of those people who are murdered annually. Some of the people murdered for being Transgendered were my friends.
