I ran into this documentary by accident. If you have BBC World News I would strongly recommend watching or DVRing the only airing left tonight at 10:00 pm Eastern.
  • Around 80% of kids with gender dysphoria later ‘grow out’ of it
  • Some children with gender dysphoria but do not transition grow into being adults who have same-sex attraction
  • The Canadian province of Alberta is coming up with legislation that will bar parents from having a say on children with gender dysphoria
  • A top psychologist was fired for saying transitioning and affirmation aren’t the only paths for children with gender dysphoria
  • There is a lack of evidence of ‘blue’ and ‘pink’ brains
It originally aired in the UK on BBC Two so if you’re in the UK it may still be on the BBC iPlayer.
If you can’t watch it, this review of the documentary gives a synopsis:
telegraph.co.uk/tv/2017/01/12/transgender-kids-knows-best-even-handed-look-gender-dysphoria/

Not to be “that guy”, but I was looking through the synopsis and didnt find any sources to any official studies. Its just that the lack of cited sources for things like the 80% figure and how there is " a lack of evidence for male and female wired brains." leaves me skeptical. Now I am not by any means a psychologist, but I like to look at said study to see if there is any variation, where funding came from, background of the study, etc. It makes it easier to believe when citations are available. Not a deliberate attack on anyone here but I am just a scholar seeking out information, my dudes.

It’s in the documentary. Unfortunately, the only airing since I started this thread has passed. It is something much of the media doesn’t want to discuss or cover. It’s also gone from the iPlayer for UK TV licence fee payers so anyone on the forum in the UK missed it. I suppose it passed the week or 30-day availability limit.

This isn’t the study cited (the documentary briefly described what it looked like) but it shows many post-puberty no longer gender-dysmorphic.

Dr. Kenneth Zucker detailed why parents shouldn’t affirm *children *in identifying with the opposite gender. He said it is so much more complex than what activists are saying. I’ll try to find the studies and post them here if I find anything.
Edit: Dr. Zucker’s work listed on Google Scholar: scholar.google.ca/citations?user=X_pBW6QAAAAJ&hl=en

This is with great certainty one of the two studies mentioned that backs the documentary’s 80% figure. They interviewed the author, Dr. Devita Singh:

It has been cited by others in academic journals:
scholar.google.ca/scholar?biw=1516&bih=786&bav=on.2,or.&bvm=bv.151325232,d.amc&dpr=0.95&um=1&ie=UTF-8&lr&cites=12902988005868388911
I’ll try to see if there is anything I can link to from the neuroscientist they interviewed.

I’ve written in the World News forum not too long ago that I always wanted a proper discussion on this on TV. The documentary isn’t a discussion but it definitely allowed experts presenting evidence that goes against the consensus that the only option for gender-dysphoric children is hormones and surgery. These experts are often ignored and activists have smeared them.

Additional fragments of the documentary in print:
newstatesman.com/politics/feminism/2017/01/transgender-kids-why-doctors-are-right-be-cautious-about-childhood
It mentions two of the five families featured.
And on this site with quotes from the documentary and additional things from it. Obviously it’s coming from one side of the debate on childhood gender dysphoria. ‘Chris’ in this link is one of the fathers mentioned in the New Statesman link above:

Thanks ATraveller.
Very interesting.
You’re quite right. Any expert evidence which contradicts the politically correct LGBTQI agenda is frequently suppressed by the mainstream media.

I didn’t look at the original source, but -

Transsexualism is evil.

Transsexualism in children is especially evil (though I am not saying this of the children themselves).

Transsexualism in children, with which parents are barred from interfering by law, is so evil that only one word I can think of fits, and I’m not using it.

Governments have been overthrown for far less.

Saint Charles Lwanga, pray for us, and especially for the people of Alberta. Please let no such law come to pass, in Alberta or anywhere else. Amen.

Unfortunately, the bill got passed. I wasn’t even aware of this. Essentially, if schools are aware of a child with gender dysphoria, they won’t tell the parents. Now knowing that most children can end up later in life without gender dysphoria this policy is downright irresponsible. It will certainly push many people into having unnecessary hormone treatment and surgery.

There’s also this devestatingly effective essay, which has been posted a few times on CAF.

acpeds.org/the-college-speaks/position-statements/gender-ideology-harms-children

These pediatricians have been labelled a “hate group” in an effort to delegitimize this particular essay, which as I mentioned is just devestatingly effective. Overwhelmingly so, in fact. I don’t really know what’s in these pediatrician’s hearts, but they certainly don’t seem hateful or cruel or anything like that, and I do believe this piece really is the final word on the subject. It strikes me that if anyone is ill-willed or callous, it’s actually those who are intent on shaping these vulnerable kids without even caring how damaged they’re likely to be later in life, and not vice versa.

The documentary also mentioned there is evidence that the younger a child is affirmed the more likely they will continue to have gender dysphoria and this is believed by many will result in more children receiving hormone therapy and ultimately transitioning physically.
The sad thing is despite being balanced the documentary was attacked as ‘transphobic’ before and after its first broadcast in the UK according to various websites. ‘Reparative therapy’ was **never ** endorsed by anyone in the documentary. This documentary isn’t even about adults but what parents should consider for pre-pubescent children.
