I’m sure these questions pop up pretty frequently, but I’ve got one anyway.

This weekend I traveled out of town to find a new home. I spent all of Saturday looking and had planned to attend Mass on Sunday. On Sunday I found a home and was taking care of acquiring it before Mass, but misunderstood what time Mass started. I missed because I thought it started at 5:30 when it actually started at 5.

So my question is, is this a circumstance in which I should seek dispensation, or should I just plan on making it to Confession this week?

You did this by accident, so this can’t be a mortal sin. You can bring it to confession if you want, but I don’t see any necessity.

Neither.

First, you have nothing to confess.

Dispensations are for times when you can attend mass but ask in advance to be dispensed from attending.

You missed Mass by accident, so there is no need to confess since you can’t sin by accident.

Hello,

Pardon me if I’m misunderstanding your question… Are you asking if you can get a dispensation for having missed this Mass? If so, no, you can’t. Dispensations apply to future actions, not past ones.
