As I mentioned above, we have a Jesse tree banner that tells the story of salvation starting with creation and ending the last week of Advent with the O Antiphons. We also have an Advent calendar where each piece is an ornament which we hang on our Advent tree (a little artificial tree with white lights and a purple bow, matching the bows on our Advent wreath).ok, so what exactly ARE advent decorations? besides an advent wreath, or the nativity minus baby jesus? if you put those up, and don’t change them for christmas, how are they not christmas decorations?![]()
On Christmas Eve, after the vigil Mass and once our sons are in bed, I replaced the Jesse tree banner with a Christmas banner, took down the Advent tree, replaced the Advent wreath with a Christmas candle, and set out all our presents under our Christmas tree. We do a live Christmas tree, purchased either the third or fourth Sunday of Advent, decorated ahead of time but with the lights kept off until Christmas. We add pieces to the Christmas banner each day until Epiphany, and everything stays up until the beginning of Ordinary time.
