Hi, eveyone.
I’m in the Schola for the Latin mass at the San Buenaventura Mission in Ventura, CA. We just found out that one of our two priests who does our Latin Mass will be leaving soon, and we are in desperate need of at least one or two other priests who either know the Tridentine Rite or are willing to learn it (we can, and have taught priests before).

If anyone knows of a priest who may be willing to help us out, we can provide a stipend.

Contact me through my forum at catholichosting.org or email me at info@catholichosting.org.

Thanks!

Isn’t this really something for your bishop to deal with instead of advertising on the internet?

If the bishop is not friendly to those who love/want the TLM, then it might be easier to have a priest available to suggest replacing the one leaving, than relying on the bishop to find one.

Apparently we cannot go through Bishop Curry, which is a shame. We have asked His Eminence The Cardinal. He is very busy and does not have the resources to find us another priest, so we were told to find one on our own.

Exactly, my friend.

Excuse me? I’m not sure what you mean, that’s exactly what I’ve been doing, as well as being a member of our Church Council and our Schola. I am posting for help here, in addition to calling all the priests I know and asking friends and family.

I can’t help but notice that of the three replies to my OP, two of them have had a distinctly uncharitable tone for being in a Catholic forum.

imo, it doesn’t hurt to try. never know what this immense internet that God provided can do. it’s for searching, and that’s what he’s doing. God bless your effort.

I’ll pray that one will be provided in Southern Cal.

But proceed carefully here to avoid another Fr. Bozek type situation. Normally, a local diocesan bishop has to grant visiting priests the faculties to say Mass and to hear confessions, and that particular priest’s bishop (if he’s not in a religious order) has to give the okay.

Now, I don’t know how the motu proprio will affect this process, whether someone in the Vatican can arrange for a traditional priest to say Mass in Southern Cal, overriding any refusal by the local bishop.

Just be careful and pray about it. God will provide. 🙂

Thanks for the kind advice!
We’re in no way trying to override anything our dear Bishops has said, we’re just trying to find someone who is at least willing to say the mass, so we can then present him to the Bishop or Cardinal. Believe me, I think it’s best to play by the rules here.

When I said you should volunteer, I meant it. You start by applying to the diocesan vocations office, and/or a suitable religious order. You get accepted into a program, take the courses, spend years in formation and eventually you may have your heart’s desire: a priest to celebrate the Mass in Latin in your part of southern California. I know the answer is not as quick a fix as you might wish for, but it’s a fix. Volunteer.

Did it ever occur to you that this gentleman could be married? Or that he is too well setup in his career or vocation, or state in life, to consider such a radical shift in lifestyle the priesthood would entail? Alot of things to consider…

My family has recently started going to that Mass! We did not know this. It has taken my wife three years to commit to going to the TLM and after A LOT of prayer we finally have been going regularly, thank the Lord! I dont know what I would do if we lost it! Is there anything I can do to help?

Bwahaha. LOL. Yeah, I am married with Kiddie #1 on the way.
I do appreciate your encouragement for action beyond words, though.

Hi, Justinmyrtr!
I’m the guy who is married to the choir director :-).
Well, most urgently, we’re trying to find a priest who can or is willing to learn to say the Trid Mass. If you know of anyone who is a priest, or even knows a priest wwho might be able, it’d be great to let him know about us.

Secondly,
our slowly growing Schola could really use more men’s voices.
No experience required, I sure didn’t have any when I started.

If you’re interested in joining up, or know another gentleman who is, feel free to email me at info(at)catholichosting.org .
Swapping the ‘(at)’ for an ‘@’.

Christ is risen!

I think your attitude towards this whole thing is very admirable.

Have you talked to your current priests? Do they know anybody who is interested?

Thank you!
We have spoken with our current priests. Actually, that was our first step. Unfortunately, they don’t know anybody locally who is able, but they are both from outside the area originally.
