Actually you’re right. I tend to overuse him as an example of how bad things have turned in the Church but there were more like him at the time. Henry VIII, for example, had a very strong role in the Reformation. Maybe we trads should start using him as the bad example. Along with Archbishop Cranmer. **Actually, if you read history. Henry VIII did not alter anything in the English Church. He maintained the Mass as it was then offered, in Latin. He changed nothing theologically. He took over the Church in England as both putative and real head and he seized Church property to enrich himself, but he wasn’t really a part of the “reformation” that took place under his son Edward’s regents and then his daughter Elizabeth. **

.

Like I said Luther Luther Luther. As you can see in one line you mentioned him twice.:hypno: :banghead:

I can only point out that you mentioned him 3 times.

you are entitled to your opinion of course, this is your right, even if you disagree with the supreme Pontiff. You obviously did not read the quotes or take the the advice of checking the Vatican website for similar quotes, and there are ‘many’ (not ‘all’)👍 **The problem is, the quotes that you make don’t support the argument that you’re attempting to make (ie, that the Pope likes EVERYBODY’S sacral language). Maybe you should post the ones that actually DO support your argument. **

I do not know who I am replying to anymore JKIRK or AJV. Come on be honest you two are the same person, right?🤷

**I do assure you, AJV is far more knowledgable and charitable than I am. That’s not praise, as I’m not charitable at all when people cast aspersions on my Church and the Mass or seek to perturb the faithful in their trust of the legitimate authority of that Church. So he would only have to practice only a mere modicum of charity to outdistance ME. No, we are entirely different people. **

Here is some truth for you:

St. Jn 1:17 For the law was given by Moses; grace and truth came by Jesus Christ
St. Jn 8:45 But if I say the truth, you believe me not.
St. Jn 14:6 Jesus saith to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me.
Romans 9 :1 I speak the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost:
2 Corinthians 4 :2 But we renounce the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor adulterating the word of God; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience, in the sight of God.
You proof-text like the best of Protestants. Holy Writ means what the Church says it means.

I see no crime in displaying the Holy Scripture but I guess you do. So what do you identitify your position with? :signofcross:

Perhaps your little “zingers” would be more comprehensible if you wrote them in Latin?
Perhaps I could attempt it, but my Latin is definitely not as good as yours. If you would like we could continue in Sanskrit, or maybe another language if English is not your first language?

No, no, I just about think I can manage English.

I don’t think the issue is that you quote scripture, but that you quote scripture in a way the brings multiple short points together, out of context.

After All…
Matt 27:5 he departed and went off and hanged himself.
Luke 3:11 whoever has food should do likewise.
(excerpted from the NAB as presented at USCCB.org, and done only to make a point about bad quoting…)

Taking even full verses without their context is poor argument, but common amongst many protestants.

Now, if anyone tried one-line quotes without setup or context in historical peer-reviewed works, they would be ridiculed… with good cause… but many of the same who would ridicule feel free to make citations from the bible in such inappropriate ways.

And yes, I did so in extremis absurdam, to make the point that it’s the method, not the use of scripture.

And this relates exactly how to your blanket statement that started the verse quoting?

To use my alter-ego’s classic phrase: subjective. 😃

😃
I wouldn’t know subjective from your alter-ego since I have him/her on ignore.

Is it Your Reverence or His Reverence? I forgot.
