Tridentine Mass question

We’re considering attending a local Tridentine Mass this Sunday. We’ve never been to a non-NO Mass and aren’t sure what to expect or what our role is. I’ve done some research on the web and it seems we really won’t do or say anything, that the Mass, for the congregation, is more of the eye and the heart, not the mouth. Is that true for the most part? What about standing, kneeling and such? I’d like us to be as prepared as possible so we don’t stand out as newbies so much. Any advice is much appreciated.

Unless it is a dialogue mass, which seems to be rare, you won’t have to say anything. As far as the movements go, such as standing, sitting, and kneeling, just sit at least a few rows back from the front so you can see what other parishoners are doing. Then just do the same thing. There are many people who don’t really know exactly what to do at what time, but they just follow the rest of the people. Don’t let it worry you.

I would highly recommend that you get an English/Latin missal to help you follow along, if you don’t have one already. It is not required, but it will make the experience much more meaningful.

First Mass - you’ll learn a lot by watching. Where I go, they have been good about having booklets available, as well. You may want to call the church with questions as well.

There will very likely be missals in pamphlet form at the church. You can also print out the order of the Mass from the Internet.

You won’t have the readings, of course. The readings for the TLM are different than the NO. But, don’t worry about that. I wouldn’t rush out to buy a full-sized Sunday missal right away.

Already lots of good advise.
As for the readings. They will probably do them in Latin at the altar and then again in English right before the homily so you will know what was read.
Also it’s good to know that there is no repsonse at teh end of the readings like there is in the N.O.
When receiving communion, the Priest will hold up the host and say “corpus Christi” you don’t say Amen, just extend your tongue.

Take your time, let the mass flow, listen to the beautiful music and singing. Don’t expect to understand everything all at once.

I thought the priest said “Corpus Domini nostri Jesu Christi custudiat animam tuam in vitam aeternam. Amen.”

I just checked my missal, and that is what is shown n there, but I’ve never heard this at mass. Where we go father takes the host, make the sign of the cross with it and says “Corpus Christi.”

In any event, there is no repsonse by the person recieving.
