Well, here’s the story. Way back when, all altar servers were ministers (seminarians, priests, etc), but as time passed and the Church expanded, there weren’t enough ministers to go around, so altar boys were “hired” to substitute them. They sort of “represented” ministers, so that’s why the Tridentine Mass does not have altar girls.
And I’m totally opposed to them in Novus Ordo too.
