Tridentine Mass

Going to my first ever Tridentine Mass tomorrow. Is there any Latin prayers that I need to learn before I go?

Hi Jordan,

In the “Tridentine” Mass, the priest does all the work.

But you may get to say “Et cum spiritu tuo” (ett koom SPEE-ree-too TOO-oh), which means “and with your spirit”

That’s not necessarily true. I regularly attend an EF mass where the laity are encouraged to participate aloud along with the server in the ordinaries.

I participate sotto voce whenever possible, it helps me stay focused during those sections when the priest is inaudible. I’m a newbie, though, and still using the red missalette.

Ha! Good for you! I love the Traditional Latin Mass… to answer your question. They will usually have a little red missal booklet there and all the prayers you will need to say will be in there… But, a quick rundown of what you’ll have to say (sing)…

Kyrie (that’s actually Greek)
Gloria
Credo
Sanctus
(the last line) of the Pater Noster- “sed libera nos a malo”
and the Agnus Dei

and of course, throughout the mass when you hear the priest say “Dominus Vobiscum”, you respond “Et cum spiritu tuo”
