As a Friend I do not participate in the “outward signs” of ritual. As a Friend I believe each and every action carries with it "sacramental interaction’.
As one Friend stated…“One may enter the waters of baptism a “dry sinner” and exit a “wet sinner”…no inward change has occured…but no one Baptized in the Holy Spirit and with fire, can remain the same.”
The ritual cleansing with water with the “special liturgical” words spoken correctly does not make one a “Christian”.

My little brother a Minister Muhammed for the Nation of Islam was baptised in water just like I was when I was an atheist. As marks go, well it doesn’t seem to show anything to the outside world only to witnesses at the ritual.

When you say “the mark of Christianity” what do you mean exactly?
I would certainly say it is the first of the Sacraments of initiation and the gateway to Christianity. I also agree that to be Baptised correctly, in the Christian understanding, a person must be Baptised “in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit” as per Matthew.
Does that make it the mark of Christianity though?

I’m not on board with baptismal regeneration. I don’t rule it out entirely for adults who are baptized, but I wouldn’t expect it and I certainly don’t believe it’s guaranteed. So basically, what Publisher said.Please give details if you wish.

That’s why I said no. I also said no because baptismal regeneration did not happen to me.

I do beleive that baptism is part of what makes us Christian.
But I have to quibble with the words “water baptism”. We have had long discussions with charismatic/pentecostal people before who always insist on saying “water” baptism who said that is not the correct baptism that forgives sin, Acts 2:38. But is only symbolic, the only real baptism for them that matters is “Holy Ghost” baptism.
