Since the trinity is one God three persons, is it incorrect to pray to just Jesus or the Father or the Spirit? Do the prayers need to address all three? The thought kind of came up when I was praying a prayer specifically to the Holy Spirit.

all prayers are to the trinity, even if adressed only to one person- “With the Father and Son He (the Holy Spirit) is worshipped and glorified”. the practice to praying a prayer to a particular person of the trinity does not exclude the other two persons, and i tend to view this to be more for our benefit as human beings than anything else- it helps to make the prayer more “concreate”, since there is more imagry it is more tangible to us.
 
God is One. When you pray to one Person of the Trinity, you are not “neglecting” the others.

We tend to associate the Father with creation, the Son with redemption, and the Holy Spirit with sanctification. This may lead us to pray to different Persons of the Trinity at different times. But all three Persons act together to accomplish all these things.

Makes no difference at all. Sometimes we feel moved to pray to one or another. This is the work of the Holy Spirit. Go with what feels right here. You might pray to the Sacred heart for a while, Holy infant Jesus of Prague, etc. You may do a 30 day devotion to the Holy Spirit or spend time with the Father. It doesn’t matter. Just go where your lead in this area.
I heard an interesting description of the Holy Trinity which may help someone-
From all eternity God ( Father ) speaks and His word is so powerful it becomes a living Word ( Jesus ) And the love between them is so great it becomes a living Love ( Holy Spirit).
Of course the Word of God became one of us in time - Jesus. It’s a good idea to study every minute detail of Jesus’ life because we learn about the Father and Holy Spirit too. It’s easier for us to know God when we see Him as a man. But pray as you will.
 
You have been given good answers with the prior posts. The important thing to remember is that there is** ONE GOD. ** There are three persons, but still only ONE GOD. Where one is, there are the other two, always and everywhere. As we cannot understand this, it is called a mystery of faith. God knows your love for him and each prayer is to all three, regardless of the person to whom it is addressed.

You can address your prayers to the Father, Son, or Holy Spirit individually or to all members of the Holy Trinity. The Father wants to draw you into sonship or daughterhood. The Father wants you to grow in relationship with Him–to show you His Son, Jesus, and to share the Love of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus, wants to connect with you in every human way. Jesus will model for you His obedience to the Father. Jesus will draw you into Unity in the Life of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirity will emerse you in the Love between the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit will be your guide and helper in understanding the Mystery of the Trinity.

In other words, through prayer you will be led to a closer relationship with the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Since the Three Persons are One you cannot pray to One without the Other Two Persons being present; however each Person is distinct and desires a relationship with you.
