I am the one percent that is constantly used 100% percent of the time to justify abortion. But I was adopted and loved. I have a story that’s full of redemption that continues to unfold. Part of that journey is honoring my birthmom. Words seem so insufficient, though. The courage of my birthmom’s singular decision will have reverberations for generations. My four children are a beautiful reminder that she chose to be stronger than her circumstances.

Beautiful story. We have much work to do as Catholics to change the dialogue and framing of children conceived after rape.
From the article:
I Iet a tear fall for every person who said my son would grow up and hate me, or become a violent criminal, or would be otherwise irrevocably scarred by my decision to keep him.
Hopefully thoughtful Catholics aren’t the ones saying the child will grow up to be a monster but I’ve heard Catholics suggest that rape and incest are just reasons for abortion. I say that such talk is evidence of our own discomfort with rape and we would rather the “problem” go away rather than figure out how to act like a decent person around a victim/survivor of rape. We act as thought she did something shameful, or that we know something “intimate” about her. Rape is not an intimate act; it’s a violent assault. If someone suffered contusions and abrasions after a car crash (that wasn’t their fault), or after rescuing a child from an attack or from a burning car, we don’t look away or pretend we don’t see them. No, they are survivors and if they protected someone else they are heroes. Let’s start seeing women who carry any difficult pregnancy this way, all of them.

Thank you for posting that . There is nothing I would even try to add to that story and its beauty and truth.

Shalom
