I read this a year ago and I’m very skeptical of this apparition. Mainly the idea of John 14:6, no one comes to the Father except through me, and Mary saying we should take refuge in her heart?

JD…those in heaven…of which I am sure you believe Mary is…those in heaven, would they disobey God or Jesus?

Is there sin in heaven? Would anybody do anything that God did not know about? Would anyone in heaven say anything that is contrary to God’s wishes?

Our Blessed Mother yearns to bring us closer to the Sacred Heart of her Son. Devotion to Mary should bring one closer to Jesus and hence, the Father.

whether the apparition occurred or not, whether the Church approves or not, we are not required to believe in private revelations. Private revelations, in the first place, are intended for the people to whom they occur.

I don’t like the “message to the world” approach that devotees have about Fatima or even “the” Divine Mercy.

Mother Angelica once had a conversation with Cardinal Arinze, and he, if I may put it this way, pushed back on her about private revelations, in the way I indicated above.

The biggest insult of these “ministries” is that what they’re saying or come pretty close to saying is that Jesus isn’t enough, the gospel isn’t enough. Another aspect is that I can’t seem to keep up with the purported apparitions.

I attended Mass one Sunday at the Mary Queen of the Universe church near Orlando, Florida. One of the general intercessions was a) praying to God b) for greater devotion to Mary. HUH? Who will we really be worshipping in Heaven? I thought so.

About fatima, devotion to mary or who to worship, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion but what one must know is that there is no division in heaven as it is on earth that is why sometimes we make the mistake of judging divine things with earthly thinking. In heaven and on earth all things happens for the Glory of ALMIGHTY GOD…devoting to Mary or whatever all tend to bring us to GOD

GOD HELP US AND LET YOUR GREAT LIGHT SHINE ON OUR DARKNESS…PAX CHRISTI+

I love nary, she is the queesn of all saints. Fatima’s message regarding the converstiion of russia is tooi political. God loves us all and so does mary.
I do have favorite apparations, but this is not one. I prefer.- beieve in Religious based apparitions of Mary, but this one is rough for me.
If someone can explain this to me I would appreciate it,

I can understand what you are saying. Namely that you are having a difficult time understanding the deep love many popes and saints have for Mary, and even in the communion of saints and how this all ties into the teaching of the church.

But I’m sure with more study, research, and prayer, it will become clear why these holy people had this affection and realization of the role of Mary in the church and its members.

There are occasions when only a solitary study can mine the holiness and deep sense of goodness to this. If it excapes you for now, then don’t feel desolate, just keep praying and one day the greatness of this will open up to you.

Be at peace.

I think the best way to understand this might be to understand the role of Mary in the Church. The following might certainly help (and change your life) if you take the time to read through it

I cannot stress enough the healthy thinking of Cardinal Arinze.
Vames, thank you for your (name removed by moderator)ut from Cardinal Arinze.

I couldn’t make out everything he said since his pronunciation at times was difficult for me to follow. However he says pretty much what has been pointed out about private apparations.

One thing he said was that nothing new in revelation is ever presented in a private revelation because the church has defined that all revelation has been given that is going to be given with the death of the last apostle. And then he said that therefore the apparations will not present any new information. I didn’t quote him exactly but close.

If he means by no “new” information, revelation, ok. If he means by no “new” information, no information, then not ok. What information Mary gave at Fatima was about atheistic communism and what would happen to the world if it was left unchecked. Also about a second war. Mary also advocated prayer to stop these evil world wide forces from over running the world.

It sounds very much like the story told of Nineveh in the old testiment, where Jona the prophet was told to go and preach repentance to the people. And God’s plan for Nineveh was changed because they did do penance for sin. Mary to me sounds very much like this good prophet, who warned the people to avoid terrible suffering of war and destruction.

To me that sounds like a very good thing of Mary to do. To help her children avoid suffering. So this apparition did contain new information to guide us and to encourage us in our prayers.

There are also other things as well that came from Fatima and still come from Fatima, but that is for another time.

Just some thoughts

For one thing, stay far, far, far, FAR away from jesus-is-savior.com. That’s a hate-filled site that spews lies about the Catholic Church and just about everything that site’s owner doesn’t agree with.

With regards to Fatima itself, find real Catholic sources and check them out for yourself but even then, none of us are required to even believe or accept Fatima or any other apparition even if approved. Unlike magisterial pronouncements, you don’t even need to try and figure out what was said; one can freely reject any apparition or private revelation.

To go back to the original poster’s question…

Everybody at the time would have understood the Fatima comment as referring to devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which is always twinned with devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. (For example, the Sacred Heart is celebrated with the First Fridays devotion; the Immaculate Heart with First Saturdays. It shows that Mary follows Jesus, and also refers to Mary’s unseen sadness on the Saturday between Jesus’ Crucifixion and Resurrection.)

Jesus’ Heart was of course pierced by a spear after His death; Mary’s heart was predicted by Simeon to be destined to be pierced with a sword (of sorrow). Thus the devotion to the Two Hearts, which is thoroughly Biblical.

So if Mary is saying people should seek refuge in her heart, she’s saying that people should feel confident that they can trust their sorrow to her heart that has known sorrow, and thus they can trust Jesus’ love and suffering to save them from their sins.

This is the sort of Bible imagery and devotion that Catholics didn’t use to have to have unpacked; but of course there’s no particular reason that Protestants should be aware of the Bible imagery that Catholics love best.

Devotion to the Two Hearts is all about the Divine Mercy of Jesus, about being a model Christian like Mary who accepts suffering, and about making willing reparations and small sacrifices to please Jesus and in imitation of Jesus and Mary, which of course is another Fatima theme.
