I cannot seem to get on a site a talk or ask a question…

Hello Herb and welcome to CAF. 🙂

I noticed that you are posting questions on your home screen Message Board. No one is going to see it there unless they happen to visit your, I forget what they call that page, well, let’s call it your home screen for now. People may visit your page after you have actually posted but, if you have never posted they will most likely never go there.

Now that you have two posts going, are you all set with knowing how to post or start a thread? Let us know so we can help you. (To respond to this thread, just log in and click ‘post reply’ at the bottom of the thread and type what you want and then click the ‘post’ button and voila! 🙂 )

Regarding discussing books that you are reading, there is a forum for that, here is the link:
forums.catholic-questions.org/forumdisplay.php?f=58

In that forum you can start a thread for this concern of yours:

"I have read books on Thomas Aquinas (not the “Summa) I have read Josef Pieper’s “Guide to Thomas Aquinas” and “Summa of the Summa” by Peter Kreeft. I still find it hard to really grasp the text. Is there a text or discussion group available? thanks, Herb”

I am not familiar with Thomas Bokenkotter. The book did not get good reviews. If you find that he is too liberal for you get another book. Since you are beginning to learn about the Church keep an eye out for books with a nihil obstat - it helps. amazon.com/Concise-History-Catholic-Revised-Expanded/dp/0385411472

If I or anyone here can be of further assistance, please let us know.

Herbert! Welcome to CAF!

At the bottom of each post are your two primary buttons, one that says: Post Reply, and the other one, within the post, above and to the right, that says, Quote. If you want to post a naked replay, you hit the Post Reply button. If you want to reply to specific part(s) of another’s post, you hit the Quote button. If you study the post after hitting the Quote button, you’ll be able to figure out how to use the tools effectively. Remember, you can always go into any other post by hitting the Quote button, then leave it without saving it.

God bless,
jd

Hello Herb,🙂

I noticed you ran into some problems with post #4 above. When you click ‘quote’ to respond to a post you will notice in the screen where you type your message that the quote is going to be at the top of the screen and end with " " you want to start typing after this symbol or you can type before the quote by typing before the bracket that has the word QUOTE and the name of the poster and number of the post.

If you want to cut in sections the quote you are quoting and respond to sections, just copy the last quote symbol that looks like this: and paste it where you want to cut the text. So you can do this:
I was led to a group called “book club” .
and type whatever you want here… Then copy the first quote symbol that has the name of the poster and past it at the beginning of another section…
I tried to join it and was unable to do so.
I don’t know if there is a page here on CAF that explains this. Does anyone know? If so, can you please provide a link here? Thank you.

Herb, 🙂

There is a “Sticky” right before the list of threads begins forums.catholic-questions.org/forumdisplay.php?f=58 that explains how to become a member. CA Book Club - How Do I Join? I don’t know if you have to be a member to post there. 🤷 Any how, the link takes you here:
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=69351

Go to your profile page ( forums.catholic-questions.org/member.php?u=136794 ) and at the top of the page you will see ‘messages’ with probably a zero next to it - select message. This will take you to, I think that page is called ‘user panel’ or something. Any how, there you want to select “Edit Profile” and on that page to the right you will see a column called: Control Panel, go down the list and select under “Networking” - Group Membership - and this is going to give you the option of becoming a member of various groups including the Book Club. Good Luck.

Yes, you do have to be a member to post in the Book Club Forum. Well, that’s no problem.

Go to one of the posts you have on this thread and click on your name. This is going to bring down a menu; select “View Public Profile” and that will take you to your profile page.

Once on your profile page, select; Messages; and continue the instructions on my post #8 above.

I want to see under your name BOOK CLUB MEMBER.

By the way, this thread may be moved to the section where people ask questions about the CAF program. It may not be changed so as not to confuse you further, but, just in case, and so that you will know where to asks questions about procedure let me show you. On the main page of the forum forums.catholic-questions.org/index.php scroll down and you will see a section at the bottom called: Concierge Desk. Below this title you will see information that may be helpful and that is where you post questions about procedures.

Go ahead and try to become a member of the Book Club. I will be on stand by if you have a question.
