School has only been in sesion for two weeks and my son is in kindergarten so i take my 3 year old twins to the neighborhood busstop. My girls have heard more than 5 very bad words (said by mother’s) at the bus stop. With gas as high as it is we can’t afford to drive our son to and from school everyday. My girls are in preschool at a Lutheran school 2 days a week. We have no Catholic schools near our home so we had to settle with a lutheran school we love it so far and we would like to send our son to the school, but it is 4,000. 00 so by the time i send my girls it will cost 12,000 a year i was just told by a church member that if we become a member we can send our children for free that is very tempting seeing that we dont have the money to send our kids and so far we dislike the public schools, but im struggling to figure out what to do. would it be wrong to join even though we are Catholic? In God’s eye’s would we be cheating?

I can’t see this as a public school vs Catholic school problem. You just said this is happening at the bus stop. Trust me that Catholics cuss equally.

It’s the nature of the bus stop.

Switching schools is not your answer. But speaking up at the bus stop may help a bit. You mentioned that other parents were using objectionable language - so why not speak up?

**hi delbra;

join a lutheran church so you can send your kids to school there? If that is what you are asking, I don’t think that would be a good idea. I am fortunate that we have been pleased with our public school system, but I’m confused as to what the public school system has to do with mothers using bad language at a bus stop? What is it about the school system that is not working for you? I know that with public schools, one can be exposed to a mixed bag. Just curious if there is something you could remedy by talking to the principal?

But, as for joining a non Catholic church, I personally would think that is a bad idea. For a few reasons. A) You’re Catholic 😛 and B) You wouldn’t be participating or tithing to that church
and C) I think you will feel a personal sense of inauthenticity by doing so…right now, it seems like an easy solution, but just because something is easy, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. The devil is filled with offering up easy things that tempt us from the Church. Not that the Lutheran faith is bad…it’s not. I have been to Lutheran services in the past, but I wouldn’t join a church that I don’t follow the core faith.

Just my two cents…I’ll be praying for a solution for you to come your way!:o **

I agree with the others… it’s not the school, just the bus stop experience…
Can you just stand a little further away? Out of earshot?
Or just say something to the other moms?

i did speak up and told one of the mom’s to “watch thier mouths” and she responded " are you talking to me you little b****?" so i grabbed my girls hands and went straight to my car now i have only made things worse another mother walked next to my car as i was getting my girls out of our car to walk to the bus and she yelled to another mom"did you just call me a douche bag" my daughter’s have now heard s****, b****, F***,A**. douche bad all at my 5 year olds bus stop. i have found speaking up when you are surrounded by a clicky bus stop did not work now i am for sure the outcast!

sorry this is delbra i was under my friends name who is here with me…SORRY!!

Here’s the thing, my parents are hispanics, and Catholic, married for over 30 years now…and let me tell you that those two have the biggest potty mouths ever!! Since I became a young adult they stopped with the cussing, and bad words, and then tried to teach us not to cuss!! LOL…It was wrong etc…I was all ready 20 years old!! HAHAHA!!! Good one!! Anyhow, I know when to blurt out my anger issues usually when no one is around, and let me tell you that my parents had nothing to do with it, nor did anyone else around…Something I chose to do…and say… I never cussed as I was growing up until my late teens…because I felt like it… I don’t like it when everyone around me tells me OMG if your kids hear you!!! It’s like hello?? Whether they hear it from me or the next door neighbor or aunts and uncles eventually they will hear it and it will be their choice as growing up if they decide to include such wrongful manner of expressing themselves…just as I did…
I don’t like it that people say OMG you are horrible for cussing what are you teaching your children? It’s like I am not teaching them to cuss…I am a person too, an individual and if I choose to do so doesn’t mean my child will, nor does it give them the right to do it…You do lead by example, that is very true, but hello my mother is a manipulative, negative being and I am nothing like her…If my sister jumps it doesn’t mean I will do it too!!! So I will continue teaching my children right from wrong, and raising them under God but I will not stop being myself just because others don’t like it…I will not stop having the worst habbit of cussing just because society isn’t happy about children hearing it…because there will be someone else around that will say it…and unless I am teaching them that it’s not really right to say them but when they are adults they can if they choose to at least they might grow up in the same sense as I did of choosing not to cuss when I was a child…till I was an adult… 😛 Perhaps I shouldn’t be proud of myself but hey sometimes those are the only words that can come out…🤷

hate to tell you this but our Catholic school uses the public school buses… so even if you sent your kids to Catholic school around here, you would be sending them on public school buses…

Have you thought about saying something to the school? They may be able to send a note home with the children asking parents to watch their language around school kids… maybe it would go over better from them…

i live in a park where thier are 68 children that stand at the bus stop all with parents we all have to park in the same area and it’s the only place we are allowed to park there is no where you can stand to be out of earshot! i’ve tried everything speaking up that ony made enimies!the other mom’s don’t talk to me after i asked the mom that said the f word to watch her mouth im an outcast now.

Unless you want to leave the Catholic Church and actually become Lutheran, you should not join the Lutheran Chruch just for the free schooling. It would most certainly be wrong.

You would need to stand in front of the Lutheran Congregation and state that you embrace their faith. If it wasn’t true - you would be lying. Not good for you - not fair for the Lutherans who would be supporting your children at the school. School is never free - somebody is paying for it.

All the Lutheran schools I know celebrate October as Reformation month. Martin Luther is a hero of their Christian Faith and is celeberated as such. I think it would be very confusing for your children. If your Catholic faith is important to you, this is all around a bad idea.

On the other hand, YUCK to having to hear the potty mouths at the bus stop. I’ll toss this out there: Can you homeschool?

Well, this is still not a Catholic school vs public school issue. Period.

Can you sit in your car with the children until the bus comes to a stop, then let your school aged child get out and proceed to the bus?

Good idea. Sit in your car or stand far enough away that your children can’t hear the foul mouth mothers. While you’re standing there, silently pray for them. What terrible examples they are setting for their children.

Opps - just read your post that out of earshot isn’t an option. Ok, can you drive your child to school?

I’d say something to the potty-mouthed moms. Or, sit in my car wiht my kids until the bus approaches.
would it be wrong to join even though we are Catholic?
Yes, it would be very wrong. You are not a Lutheran. Officially joining a non-Catholic Church is a very serious violation of Church teaching-- a sinful act.

The Lutheran church has requirements for membership-- you would probably be looking at being asked to actually convert to the Lutheran church not just register on paper and then forgetting about it.

As a Catholic this is completely unacceptable.
In God’s eye’s would we be cheating?
Yes, since you would be trying to get free tuition based on a false representation that you are Lutherans and are members of that chuch when you are not.

should you join the lutheran church so your kids don’t hear cursing at the bus stop?

i’m fairly non-plussed by the inequality of factors, here, deb. you don’t want your girls to hear cursing, but you’re willing to pretend to be Lutheran in order to get free school. you think cursing is worse than this example of duplicity?

how about buy all your kid cheap mp3 players playing church music to wear at the bus stop. or pray the rosary out loud.

Your kids are going to hear these words no matter what.

Since these women are clearly gutter-minded individuals you will just hav to teach the lesson about bad words a little sooner than you may have wanted.

Just ignore them and go about your business. Drive the kids to school if you can, but if that’s not possible then you are going to have to toughen up at the bus stop.

Also, you state you cannot afford to drive the 5 yo to school, yet you have your 3 yos in a private pre-school. Maybe you could do something different with the 3 yos to ease up the family budget.

WOW!! WOAH!! OK see that’s just wrong…I don’t do that nor have I ever…llike I said before, my cussing is usually towards myself or things I do like saying things like “freaking dumb @@@” things like that because I am my own worst enemy…But like that nooooo way…that’s just wrong…and if I ever have OMG do I feel horrible…and I do apologize…if ever…

I am going to take a stab at dissecting this.

Is it really the public school you do not like or the bus stop? Do you have additional issues with the school - since you phrased it this way?

If you cannot sit in your car while you wait then step back and think of your options. If the choice is to start attending a Lutheran Church just for free education, listen to cuss words at the bus stop, or spend the extra money driving your child to school, why not really think about eliminating the aggravation from your life and make the drive. How far is it?

Think of all the peace you can have in the mean time with a quiet drive. You can spend the few minutes driving for some family prayer time with the kids. That’s what I do as I am dropping of my son daily.

In the mean time, you may even meet some nice moms who are dropping off their children at the same time.

I agree. The “trying to get free tuition” angle is a much worse example for the children than the curse words.
