"True Devotion To Mary" by St. Louis de Montfort

INTRODUCTION OF SAINT LOUIS MARIE
  1. It was through the Blessed Virgin Mary that Jesus came into the world, and it is also through her that he must reign in the world.
OK, here’s the first line of the document at EWTN. I can understand that Jesus came into the world “through” the BVM. How is it that “through” her that he must reign in the world?

Personally, I have a mother with mental problems, so I have never had a normal relationship with her. I only have to do anything “through” her to accomodate her feelings, etc. I got three college degrees without going “through” her, for example, or worked until retirement in a technical job. There’s very little I had to do “through” my mother after I became of age and made my own decisions.

So, I viscerally do not understand that Jesus “must” reign “through” Mary. Jesus ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father, before Mary died and went to heaven. He was reigning before Mary was ever created. God is the same, yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Let’s say I hypothetically concede the point, what does it even MEAN to “reign through her”?

Answer both questions please: How? and Why?
 
If I am not mstaken, St. Luois DeMonfort is the Priest that stopped Mass to beat up some hecklers in the bar next to the Church when they disturbed Mass. I’m told he mellowed with age. I love that guy. He is one of my favorite Saints. The military chaplains remind me of that quality. I never had a priest bark at me to get Mass before. Now that is Church militant, let me tell you. It sounds like we are to devote ourselves completely to Mother Mary however it made me a little uncomfortable because I don’t want to make the mistake of worshiping Her over God? I know their can be a fine line. I was hoping someone could help explain this better or give thoughts on the book/devotion.🙂

I do not know for book, but Virgin Mary is way to God. She has not commited sin.
She will send us to Jesus. She is Jesus mother she do not think abou herself she think only about God and how to convert us to God, and how our faith can be better.

The Total Consecration is a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful thing. What it is, is saying “yes” to God’s call and plans in the manner, style, and love of Mary as she did in the Gospel when she was asked to be the Mother of Christ. You take Mary as your North Star, she will shine her light of love on you, and you trust that she will lead you to her Son. I encourage you, and anyone else to do it. Pray the rosary, wear your scapulars and Miraculous Medals. Mary provides so many ways to her Son. We need to honor and love her more!

I’ve got my package and am in the process of making my consecration. The graces God has given me so far are mind-boggling. This consecreation will be the single best thing you will ever do for your spiritual life, apart from being Catholic of course.

Well said. Its akin to the thought that someone will come here and put their trust in perfect strangers on a message board to try and hope one leads them closer to GOD rather than praying to the Mother of GOD in a method recommended by a Canonized Saint whose Book is Backed not only by religious societies but Holy Mother the Church and several Popes.

Which course is more prudent?
 
I can’t remember in which book, but in one of them St Louis de Montfort makes the following point:

2 ways to holiness:
  1. conform to Christ by chipping away this defect, that defect, building up this virtue or that.
  2. conform to Christ by letting Mary mold you in the image of herself. ’
At least I got that out of some of the pages.

Anyone else get that? I need to get back to that book.
 
Today is the feast day of St. Louis de Montfort. It is also day one for the 33 day preparation for consecration to Our Lady. 🙂

How do you figure that one out? The next Feast isn’t until the 16th of July, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (when I intend to make my own consecration).
 
I just thought that I would mention that today is St. Louis de Montfort’s saint day, April 28. My bithday, too. I must dust off my copy of the book and read it again; it has been awhile.

Ah I see. I’ve been working off a more limited selection (not all being Holy Days of Obligation either). I seem to have forgotten we actually have quite a few Marian Feast Days :D. Still the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel will remain for me my day of choice as it will be the anniversary of my enrolment in the Confraternity of the Brown Scapular.

Which reminds me that I better order a new one soon…

I didn’t know about these feast until I read the 33 day preparation book. :o

I said in another True Devotion thread that had I known I may have picked another feast day, but I was eager to consecrate myself to Her. :o It’s all good. The Visitation has Jesus, Mary, John the Baptist and Elizabeth. 😃
 
Okay, I think I’m a little confused. My husband and I recently learned about this devotion and began our consecration on March 28th. After the 33rd day, there is an instruction in the book on how to make your consecration. It says to go to Confession and Holy Communion and then to recite and write the consecration prayer. Since confessions are only heard on Saturdays at our Church, we were planning on going to Confession and then, of course, Mass on Sunday to receive Holy Communion. It didn’t say anything about the consecration having to take place precisely on the 34th day. Did we mess up? :confused:

I think it’s similar to First Saturday devotions in that you should go to confession and receive close to the 33 day. Try emailing Tony Mullen on his website and ask him. He would know better than me. Or the Monfort Spiritual Association (where you register once with Mary Queen of All Hearts):
