True Devotion to Mary with total consecration

did anyone read this by st louis de Montfort? I’m trying to understand this book better but he keeps talking about a devotion he knows of and the best way to reach Jesus is through this particular devotion my question is what devotion is he referring to? is he talking about the total consecration for 4 weeks that’s at the end of the book?

Yes, it is the Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. It is a Consecretation that is also a way of life.

Yes, he’s talking about the total gift of self to Jesus through Mary, as described in part 2 of True Devotion to Mary.

As others have already posted, the answer to your question is “Yes”. I would add that you may need to slow down and be patient as St. Louis describes this beautiful devotion which can be a real “life-changer” for you. St. John Paul II wrote that reading St. Louis De Montfort’s “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary” was a turning point in his young life. St. John Paul II also re-read this little book and re-newed his consecration often.

St. Teresa of Calcutta also consecrated herself using the method of St. Louis de Montfort and encouraged her Missionaries of charity to consecrate themselves. The founder of the Legion of Mary, Servant of God Frank Duff, like St. John Paul II read the book many times and was greatly inspired by it. Frank Duff did not understand it at first but had to read it about 6 times before he finally realized it was “True”. He wrote an article about his experience if you’d like to read it sometime you can find it HERE

Consecrating myself to Jesus through Mary has been one of the greatest graces of my life, so I would encourage you to read “True Devotion” prayerfully; take your time. I hope you will not only consecrate yourself totally, following St. Louis De Montfort’s method, but by God’s Grace, may you live your consecration which is, as St. Louis wrote, a perfect renewal of our Baptismal Promises.

I would say it is more than “commentary”. St Louis is seeking to convince his readers of the necessity for True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He shares why it is necessary from quotes in Scripture, Tradition, and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. He encourages all readers to seek the fruits to be gained by this devotion and then explains how to begin the 33 days of preparation before praying the Act of Consecration

As I suggested in my first reply to you, be patient as you prayerfully read this book. I made my consecration – not because I understood the whole book – but because I wanted to give myself to Jesus through Mary. I continue to be grateful to the nun who introduced me to it, and by God’s grace, I continue learning to live the consecration I made many years ago. Hope you persevere in reading and are greatly blessed by it.
