Hi, I’m a Catholic. I’m a Catholic Convert. Hi I’m a Catholic Convert who loves being Catholic. Now more than ever!
For the last 4 years I’ve “known” the Catholic Church was universal, but didn’t quite KNOW it. You know what i mean? I never felt it. I’ve never felt because I never really left home. Oh sure, I’ve gone to my parish and if I have to miss a Holy day their, I drive to the other local parish. We now share the same priest, so it’s kind of “the same”. You know? I have a conflict so I’ll go to the other church. They do things a tad different (as our priest just retired) but it’s still “home” but not HOME.
Sure I’d go to the church 1 hour away with family or if we are in Indy for GenCon we’ll go to that church. You have to understand though, all the Masses I’ve ever been to are within an hours drive. I never felt the Universality of it. Just good ol’ Midwestern, Indiana.
I had the grand oppurtunity of going to New York, New York. Good time, grand time actually. Anyway, we went to visit St. Patricks Cathedral. If you have never been there, I highly suggest it! Most beautiful church I’ve ever seen (I don’t get out much though, lol). They had a 5:30pm Mass on Saturday, and we decided to go. Sure there are about a million other parishes we could have attended in NYC, but we went there. WE wouldn’t have made it home in time on Sunday (12-13 hour drive).
I have never in my life felt at home like that! It was all the same! Yes I know, it’s supposed to be. But it was simply amazing. You realize how small you are and how big GOD is! How wonderful it is to feel at home in a place you’ve never been! To feel you belong there! Archbishop Egan presided over the Mass. Priests came from every direction to help distrupt the Eucharist.
Mass is alway amazing, in my eyes. But to be in a strange place, but not in a strange place.
WE truely are part of the the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH!
