How does one truly live without worry? Is it possible to absolutely live without any worry in one’s life? I know there are several examples within the bible exhorting us as Christians to not worry.

These are the questions and the topic of conversation I recently had with a friend that got me thinking about this that I thought I’d bring up here. Is it truly possible to live without worry?

My friend’s situation really brought this to light. Kids in trouble, bills due, business going through a slump, employee issues, wife has health issues…it’s like he told me that he’s almost afraid to wake up in the morning and discover what the latest problem is? He doesn’t watch the news or tv because as he puts it; “I have enough things on my own plate to worry about without adding the worries of the world!”
I told him to pray daily and he does and I believe him but as he states it’s almost impossible for him as hard as he tries to not worry?

With the world we live in today is it truly possible to live without worry?

Most people have worries. The answer to them is to have faith. Pray that you can accept God’s will for your life, no matter what comes your way. It doesn’t mean that we throw up our hands and do nothing but wallow though, it means trust God in all things. Ask for his help, for solutions and strength to carry on. If it becomes too much, we sometimes need more help, like an appointment with our priest, or even a counselor.

When you catch yourself feeling anxious about something, say short prayers such as “Jesus, help me!”, and “Blessed Mother, cover me with your mantle.”

I am sure you know many more, and use your own words also. As time passes you will remember to do this as soon as an anxious thought comes to mind.

I have suffered a lot of guilt over the excess worrying I’ve done as an adult. I think worrying just happens from habit or unresolved issues. I used to worry very little as a child but grew more worrisome as a mother.
I think when it’s excessive it is bad. And then there are seasons we go through like the one your friend seems to be going through, as my family is too.
I had to get a therapist to help me as I was recently diagnosed with PTSD which was probably adding to the worry or anxiety. I’m actually doing a lot better now that I understand a lot of the trauma I went through as a teenager, and I’m now allowing myself to safely process emotions that were stuck in me years ago. This has reduced my anxiety immensely. This is my case though. It has caused me to take it one day at a time, sometimes minute per minute. And also to ask for help.
I’ve had quite a few older friends say that the one thing they wish they did less of in their youth was worry! They see now how wasteful it was and that everything worked out to God’s timing.
Truly living without worry? For most people, perhaps not, but we are able to fight it with faith, friends, family, honesty, the sacraments and counseling from a priest or professional. I also read the Psalms and about the saints!

We are imperfect. We will be anxious, worry, and feel a ton of emotions weather we like it or not. Its about how we take it spiritually. When I get anxious, or worried, I offer it up to our Lord. Simple as, “I offer it up to you my Lord, you suffered far more than any of us have.”

All about how we deal with it, pray pray pray. Being submissive and vulnerable to the blessed sacrament helps alot as well. Growing in faith makes us stronger and more prepared for what the Lord has for us to come.

It’s about putting things into perspective, and facing them with faith and patience:
‘Let nothing perturb you, nothing frighten you. All things pass. God does not change. Patience achieves everything’. - St Teresa of Avila

Easier said than done? That is often said by those who have never tried.

Ever read Brother Lawrence’s Practice of the Presence of God?

I’m a worrier. I doubt I’ve ever gone 12 hours without worrying about something. I believe & hope there will be a day when my knowledge of God is so complete that I will be endowed with strength needed to stand fast even to endure joyfully whatever may come.

But that day isn’t today.

“In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
When things get tough, I start thanking God for the good things.

As my husband always says, when we have no problems, it’s probably because we’re dead.

We can take Saint Padre Pio’s advice, or that of “What, me worry?” Alfred E. Neuman, legend of MAD magazine.

Yes it’s possible. If you are prophetic like job.e
He was a minister before his problems. And a minister after he was restored
