Trump to posthumously pardon Susan B. Anthony

The president’s move could appeal to female voters, who polls show prefer former Vice President Joe Biden in the upcoming 2020 election.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced plans to grant a posthumous pardon Tuesday afternoon to women’s rights activist Susan B. Anthony, who was charged with voting illegally in the 1872 presidential election.

“She was never pardoned. Did you know that?” Trump said at the White House before signing a proclamation marking the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote.

It’s a good thing to do regardless of who does it.

I doubt it will get Trump any female supporters who aren’t already on his team though.

Her first election, and she votes for Horace P. Greeley. Yowza.

Since technically the President of the United States is the only one with authority to do it, it’s not like Kamala Harris could jump up and do it instead. I think it is unequivocally a good decision made by someone who often makes good decisions.

It might be looking the proverbial gift horse in the mouth…but, to me it seems merely as political pandering than righting a wrong…but, it is a good thing…just not sure its going to bring back the countless “suburban housewives” he has offended.

Exactly. A good think done for the wrong reasons. It’s still way past time this was done.

Yeah, I’d definitely rather seen this done by a male President now than spearheaded as a “Women’s” issue later.

No one knows why he did it.

I do know none of his predecessors, even the more urbane, polite ones like President Obama, thought to do so.

Funny they have to use posthumously in the headline. Is that for the benefit of those who have no idea who Susan B. Anthony is and do not know she is dead?

I’m willing to bet that somebody will get upset that Susan is being pardoned for something that should not have been a crime (though obviously, at the time it was).

Susan’s already been on the US dollar coin. I’m surprised they put a convicted person on the money without pardoning her first.

Yea it’s political pandering, but I like it.

It highlights our past injustice without negative overtones, the focus is on her bravery rather than deriding the ‘white male patriarchy’.

Yay!!! Now all black women and women of any color will ALL vote for his re-election!!! Super smart move from the President.

NOT.

You believe anything to do with Anthony’s arrest isn’t inherently a women’s issue?

No, it’s a civil liberties issue and we should ALL be concerned about it and any other form of mass disenfranchisement.
