When does a person cross the line in actual trusting in God and it becomes tempting or challenging of God? Any guidelines on this from you who have way more knowledge than I do would be greatly appreciated?

To test God is to demand of God signs or works - for example, miracles to prove He exists, as if the man has a right to miracles.

So if for example a person was to say, Lord, I am trusting you to get me up in time to say my morning prayers, or I am trusting you to find a way for me to pay my bills. Is this just trusting in asking him to do it?

When we truly want God’s will to be done & rely upon Him & accept His will we are Trusting Properly.

When we ( as you point out) expect to try & control God or to have Him conform to our will or desire, I think we may have crossed the line.

That does not mean we can not ask for things in Prayer. Only that we be open to the answer to that prayer. Sometimes the answer is no. not now. sometimes its a lot more complex & convoluted. Then other Factors come in to play as well. Did we pray correctly etc etc.

We are to do our best to try & follow Christ, following the Guidance that the Church can provide but always knowing that HIS WILL BE DONE on Earth as it is in Heaven.

I certainly have my desires & I pray for them & I pray that they are in line with God’s Plan & Will. Lastly I hope I remember to Pray for His Will to be done & for the grace of being able to accept it. ( no small task sometimes)

I hope this Helps.

Regards

The Jesuit dictum applies here: Work as though everything depends on you. Pray as though everything depends on God.

By properly preparing ourselves for life’s challenges and working diligently, doing the best we can, we come with a pure heart to each day’s trials. We know, however, that no matter how hard we try, we will always fall short of perfection. We will never get it completely right. So we must rely on God to provide what is lacking in us. Praying daily for God’s help and blessing will put our hearts closer to God’s will.

This is the path to proper trust in God and avoiding presuming on his grace and mercy.

Brother Matthew

This is a story I heard a long time ago.

A town flooded as the rains fell. When the rain reached the first floor, a rowboat came past offering the man inside a ride. “I’m trusting in the Lord,” he replied.
The water reached the second floor. A speed boat came by. Again the man refused saying, “I’m trusting in the Lord.”
The man climbed on top of his roof and a helicopter flew overhead. “I’m trusting in the Lord.”
The man drowned. As he stood before the judgment seat, he asked, “Where were you. Lord? You said you would take care of me?”
“I sent you a rowboat, a speed boat, and a helicopter. What more did you want?”
