Trust vs. Superstition?

How do you distinguish between trusting God and being superstitious that you should pray?
 
I would say its primarily the distinction of who brings you the bessing/request/intention you pray for… if you think that God hears your prayer and will answer it according to your will, I think thats fine. However, if you are praying for “luck” or “Good fortune”… not so much.
 
I think you need to define terms first, what do you mean by trust? And what do you mean by superstition?
 
Superstition is treating prayer like a “magic charm” whereby if you say X prayers you will get what you ask for, and if you don’t get it it’s because you prayed wrong or didn’t say enough prayers.

Trust in God is where you say the prayers because you love God, and you ask him sincerely (whether you ask once or 10 times), and then trust him to do the right thing, even if that means he says No.
 
Prayer involves a personal communication with God. Superstition is the belief that if you just do something, something else will occur.
 
Just to add to other posts.

Superstition is an attempt to control the outcome of a prayer. Trust is surrendering to the outcome.
