What is trusting God all about? I know that people say trust God matter what…but what does this really mean? And how do you go about doing so? Can someone give me an example?

I practice the Divine Mercy devotion, which is all about trust in God. The image of Divine Mercy says “Jesus I trust in You,” and I say this every morning and at other times during the day. I try to immerse myself in His Mercy and say “I trust you with my entire life,” and “I trust you especially to take care of ___” (whatever is concerning me that day). I just try to say it with conviction and confidence, and the feeling of confidence builds over time. God knows what is best for us and He loves us and wants to bring us to full truth and joy, so the more we can rely on Him to guide us the better for us in the long run.

I find it helps to get out of myself. To stop trying to over think things and put my own interpretation on them and being concerned about what I am thinking and how I want things to be, and simply free myself of all of that and LET God handle it. I say something like, “Here, God, YOU take this, and do what you will with it.” Then, LET him. Stay out of God’s way.

That’s trusting God – that, and believing that his will is totally righteous and whatever he wills, it’s going to be good, even if we don’t understand how it’s good or even if it doesn’t feel good to us. It’s still good, because it’s God’s will.

Believing that, much in the same way that most children believe their parents have their backs and want only what’s good for them, that kind of trust is how we should trust God.

Not easy, at times, when we can’t understand everything, but no worries. As long as we give it to God, we’ll be fine.

Trusting God is not the same thing as being passive. As though we just have to sit around, waiting for God to do something. Trust is something that you do; it’s an act. The book of James says “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you”. He wasn’t meaning that we should just wait for God to do something-- He meant to take action.

We are entitled to ask for help [from God], but we are not entitled to the results that we want. God will sometimes answer a prayer in a way that we don’t expect. I was reading my Bible yesterday and a certain story jumped out at me. Naman, who suffered from leprosy, was told by the man of God to dip himself in the Jordan river seven times. At first, he scoffed, but his trust in God motivated him to dip himself. When he came up out of the water for the seventh time, he was totally healed! 😀

That’s kind of like what we have to do. Perform actions with the full conviction that God is with us. The book of Psalms says “The Lord is my shield”. Can you imagine God being your defence? the Creator of everything seen and not seen cares about you that much. Perform good deeds and don’t ask for anything in return. Besides, God will reward you in Heaven one day. 😀

I find that trusting God comes through placing our hope in his mercy. I use this prayer a lot as it is comforting to me.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless, and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible,
look kindly upon us, and increase your mercy in us,
that in difficult moments, we might not despair nor become despondent,
but with great confidence, submit ourselves to your holy will,
which is love and Mercy itself.
Amen.

I have the image of the Divine Mercy on my nightstand.

Before I start my day, just after getting out of bed, I look at this picture and say “Jesus, I trust in you.”

I have dedicated this new year to the virtue of Hope.

The past couple of years have been difficult because of a lot catastrophes most of which never happened. I was under a lot of anxiety about anything and everything. My anxiety tends to blow up every little thing.

I’m telling myself enough is enough. This is no way to live, constantly fearing the future because of future bad events.

Add the prayer I posted to your morning routine. It has really helped me a lot. 🙂

Thank you. I will do that.

I do pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet every Friday at 3 PM and pray the Divine Mercy Novena after Ascension Thursday.

I was referring to situations that I find overwhelming and over which I find myself totally powerless, because they’re beyond my control. Giving those situations to God, who does have the power, and then trusting that he’ll do what’s right about them is certainly NOT being passive or lazy. It’s calling upon badly needed assistance from someone who is truly capable of helping.

I think that trust requires a schooling in the virtue of patience. Patience endures the tension between the ideal circumstances we desire, and the way things really are at the moment. Patience accepts the day as a gift of God in any circumstance.

This can be intensely difficult when suffering beats on you. It becomes more difficult when God does not “come through” when we need something to happen.

I take tremendous comfort at those times from the suffering Christ. There are times when all you can do is bleed with Christ and say “God’s will be done”.
At the end of the day, no matter how difficult the situation, we can trust that Christ has defeated it all and we need not be separated from him.

I never said that I expect the outcome to be the way I wish it would be, ideally. Once I place situations which I find hopeless into God’s hands, it’s HIS call. From there on out, I trust him with it, whatever he wills to do.

Meanwhile, I take care of whatever business I am capable of handling, and which needs taking care of. I try to help myself whenever possible. When I find things impossible, I trust God with them.

That’s not mere passivity.

To me, to trust in God is to believe that God can and wants to transform reality by overcoming evil with good. God never forsakes us if we trust him.

Trusting God is always showing him your efforts even in hard times. We are sinful people, but going to confession and eating of the Lord’s flesh every week is putting forth an effort to God saying, “my life isnt perfect, things may go a certain way but may your will be done my Lord.”

Just my idea of it, we wouldnt give up on our families hopefully, same with God we shouldnt give up on him.
