Lately I’ve realized so much of the sorrow and anxiety I’ve felt about being single or dating people who were never quite what I was looking for is because I’ve wanted to do everything my own way, and I haven’t trusted God will put the right person in my life at the right time. Part of the fear of letting go and trusting God is of course the thought that if I let myself trust God completely, and let God make me holy, or as John Paul II once put it, if I “never restrict the action of grace in [my] own soul”, God will of course send me somewhere awful I don’t think I want to go, like a convent! (Then of course I think about all the religious I have known in my life and how much joy they have, and I think that probably wouldn’t be so bad afterall!). People sometimes have this view that marriage is for those who just weren’t holy enough or just didn’t trust God enough to give their lives entirely to God, which I of course know isn’t true. 😉

But what I’d like is some encouragement, please! For those of you who are married, please tell me your stories about how you let go of your fears, trusted in God, and God put that amazing Catholic man or woman in your life just when you were supposed to meet them. Hopefully someday I will be able to add my own story; or God and I will be having a good laugh at each other from my cell in the convent!😃

Catherinette,
I’m not married, but I will say a prayer that God will place in your life the right person for you.
Just remember that our time and God’s time may not be the same. Have faith and God will bring the right person to you.
May God Bless

It’s funny, I feel exactly like you… (although, for me, I’ve never dated… this simply being that I’ve never been asked) but I hope someone has good stories for both of us… 🙂

I have been married before, and this isn’t a happy ending story but more of a lesson learned story…I rushed into marriage because I knew that’s what I wanted and I believed that the man I was marrying wanted the same thing…Kind of like Adam and Eve-Eve gets her naive self tempted into believing something that wasn’t true and then got caught and got herself into trouble!!! YUP that’s me, the naive insecure and impatient woman whom got married to the first shmuck that told her he loved her and well most of you know can imagine how that ended up!!! LOL

Well after a few years of loneliness, struggles, and sorrows, I met someone whom has given me a huge challenge!! LOL And if it wouldn’t have been for his accident I would have never asked myself if I went from bad to worst!! LOL 😦 I laugh about it now. We have had the most incredible relationship going from good to bad and bad to worst and back to ok now!! LOL It’s been a long process, mostly because of our families, whom still don’t let me be! Nor him be!! 😦 Gets kind of old after a while!

But now we are officially engaged, no more promise ring, now a real engagement ring, lol and he bought me a house. Yes it’s a fixer upper, but hey for me to have my own home now that’s something I didn’t think was possible!!! Which was a huge surprise like I must be dreaming don’t pinch me I don’t wanna wake up surprise!! LOL But with GOD and a little patience everything is possible!

He’s a Catholic man, his parents didn’t practice the religion like my parents have so they are more modern Catholics than mine…BUT we have been doing really well. He enjoys spending time with my children and myself during our church events, and loves knowing that he will be part of a family whom loves GOD so much… He is grateful to GOD for all his blessings and let me tell you something, I couldn’t be happier…I read that if you were able to make it through rough times during your relationships then there is nothing you can’t accomplish and get through together!! 😃

I am looking forward to my wedding day, can’t wait, just hope I actually get to lose some weight and look perfect for my soon-to-be hubby!! 😃

Never lose hope, always hang in there and keep praying…GOD always hears us, and He will answer your prayers, maybe not when we want them answered but when He’s ready to answer them…BUT the wait will definitely be worth it!!!

I’m not a patient or trusting person (too many men have hurt me). I’m single also, and hating it (I’m hoping I don’t have a vocation to the single life, unless God provides me with a lifetime membership to the Alcohol of the Month club :D). I’m currently trying to discern a vocation to the religious life or to the married life. And I want to know now! 😃 The hardest thing to do is trust God. When I go on dates, it’s either dumb ones, men with kids (I like kids, but I don’t want to have baby-mama drama), non-Catholics, men with criminal records, lazy, work-a-holics, unemployed, pervs (they stare at my chest the whole time), or selfish. There are no good men Catholic left! hides

Many long years ago I met a woman with 2 kids. I loved her kids a lot and figured that meant I loved her. Didn’t work out. 2 years later it’s the big D. She had never been baptized so at least it’s annullable (is that a word?)

I moved on with my life and was happy being single. I told all my friends that I would never get married again (Bad advice, I believe God considers it a challenge and He doesn’t sleep) unless God himself came down off His throne and told me “Her, Dummy!”

More years went by and I helped a friend out with his computers on his dating service. He was short of cash so he gave me a free account. A short while later my wife’s roommate went in and decided to join. Jim conned them into a 2 for 1 deal. Months go by and my wife goes in and decides she wants to date me. Jim calls me about 3 weeks later and tells me someone wants to meet me. Wrong name, wrong person. The person he told me was 16 years older than me and Jewish. I decide I might as well look while I’m there and I pick my wife.
(Jim was the the most disorganized person I had ever met but his little dating service ended up with over 150 marriages)

We go out on a date and climb Mount Bonnell (If you know Austin, TX you know that “Mount” is a huge exaggeration) and then go to Shields afterwards for pizza. I kid you not, God himself came down and smacked me in the head and said “Her, Dummy”.

A few days later I proposed (having known her a grand total of 11 days) and less than a year later we were married and have been now for 14.5 years.

I’m not so sure what she got out of the deal, but I got a trophy wife. If you meet my wife, you will know that I won the game of wife and she is my trophy.

My husband is 7 years older than me. When I was in high school, he used to hang out at my parent’s sporting goods store where I worked during the summer. I had a massive crush on him…and he seemed interested too, until he found out how old I was. Finally, I turned 19 (the legal drinking age at the time). He saw me outside mowing my parents yard one day and stopped by to say hello. He said “We’ll have to get together for a drink sometime.” Of course, I jumped all over that! Well, that very night, he called the house. I was all excited, thinking “this is it”…and he asked to talk to my dad. He had a question about something totally unrelated to me. Boy, was I bummed out!

After that, I lost track of him. I moved away and so did he. I met someone else and was on the fast track to marriage at 21. The other guy was the first person I had ever really dated and the first person to profess his love for me. So marriage is the next step, right? Anyway, I got engaged on my 21st birthday and we returned to my hometown to share the news with my family. It was crazy. When I told my parents and my brother, I started crying…and it wasn’t tears of joy. I knew in my heart that I probably wasn’t doing the right thing, but I just hoped everything would work out. WELLLLL, that very night, after we had told my parents, we went out to a local bar to “celebrate”. I hadn’t seen DH in two years and there he was. Not knowing I was engaged or that I even had a boyfriend, he came up to me and gave me a big hug and said “It’s so good to see you! How have you been?” I was flabbergasted. I managed to somehow share the news of my engagement without breaking down in tears AGAIN, but I saw something in his eyes in that moment. He was clearly disappointed.

Okay, long complicated story short…I ended up calling off my wedding just the week before the big day. DH and I started dating soon thereafter and were married two years later. I don’t want to make it sound like everything was wonderful for us…or that it’s all been roses since we got married…but I do truly believe that God interviened for us and I am just so thankful for that!

We’ve been married for 22 years and have 3 children, 19, 17 & 4.

Kathy

Thank you for the stories, and for the prayers! I will say a prayer for each of you as well.

While endangered, I don’t think they are quite extinct yet. They are probably busy thinking the same thing about all the good Catholic women!

But I know how you feel, CountrySinger! Although I’ve never dated anyone with a criminal record… at least that I knew about!😛 Lately I’m realising I’ve been blessed with many wonderful gifts, like being born into a loving and pretty happy family who taught me good values, being pretty healthy and never wanting for anything like food or shelter or really any other material need, having intelligence and talents, and even considered attractive; and after a while I started to think those gifts were my right to have! I can be scarily independent and self-reliant at times, because I’ve never really wanted for much!

But finally I’ve had some difficulty in discovering my vocation or in meeting the person God wants me to someday marry, and it’s through this difficulty and whatever kind of loneliness or suffering I’ve experienced because of it, that I truly feel the need of God, which in itself is a beautiful gift!🙂 Even if I do wish He would hurry up at times!😉

I find it’s hard to trust God as well. At some point, if I could look back and see some kind path or something to show me what God was leading me to and why, that would be one thing. But, in the meantime, God hasn’t given me a reason to trust him with all the ignoring me and whatnot.
