Bear with me, this is going to be hard to explain.
I was raised in a strict Catholic family, and attended Catholic school all the way up thru high school. As a teen I suffered from crippling depression and did something considered sinful in an attempt to feel good about myself and be happy. I did not feel reached out to by my church community, and instead felt shunned. I began to receive very bad signals from those I trusted. At age 16 I became involved with a boy and became pregnant. I wanted to get married and raise my child in the church. However I was told by my school that I would be allowed to attend school if I was pregnant, but not if I was married. This made no sense to me.
I ended up dropping out of school. I got married, had more children, and raised my family. As my kids got older I was able to finish my education and go to college, and involve myself in humanitarian efforts. I met people and experienced things that caused me to question my beliefs. I had 5 children, and every time I had a child the people around me put me down for having too many kids. But it was the Catholics in my life and community who made me feel this way. Yet…birth control is a sin?
I struggled to hold on to my beliefs, and yet my experiences with the church communities were so bad. Again and again I saw social groups based on money and popularity. Again and again my family was excluded and treated badly along with others. My daughter was removed from school halfway thru her first grade year because I didnt have the money to pay tuition. I begged and begged the pastor to work with me and help me but he was cold and unforgiving. I was shamed for being a working mother who could not attend classroom parties and day time meetings, and I was told that if I cared about my kids I would not put money first, and I would quit my job and be home full time. I took my kids out of that school and put them in public school. It dawned on me that this was the experience I had always had growing up. The rich members of the community who had things to contribute were treated like stars and my poor family was never invited to take part in anything. Still, I held on.
As I went on in my education, studying science and space, I found it hard to continue to believe. It feels shameful to even say, but it began to feel silly to even believe in a God. It sounds like a fairy tale. There is so much that doesn’t make sense…I realize that I can not begin to understand the mind of God, or his plans. But so much doesn’t add up. I hear someone bragging that her keys were lost and she prayed and God helped her find her keys…Yet I have so often prayed for things…God please help my son with his Grades, God please help me find a way to pay my electric bill, God please help me find a job… and nothing. People starve to death and watch thier children die and thier prayes arent answered. So why is the lady with the missing keys so much better than the rest of us?
I have met people, beautiful, wonderful people who spend thier lives helping others and giving of themselves- and yet I am supposed to believe that they will go to hell because they were raised as atheists or Buddhists or because they are gay or have certain political beliefs… I do not know how to reconcile all of this in my mind. I struggle and pray for answers.
I find myself drifting away…I haven’t gone to church in almost a year. I still pray every day. It is a constant back and forth struggle. Some times I’m 100% full of faith, and other times I’m 90% certain there is nothing past this life.
I have at times felt like my prayers were being heard and answered, and at other times I felt ignored by God when I needed him most. I know that God has his reasons. But sometimes I am unable to understand what those could possibly be. I could go into detail about that, and about other recent events that have challenged my faith, but I have been long winded enough already! 😛
I want to believe. I want to have a strong faith. I want God in my life. But I really am struggling. I write this not in hopes that someone understands, and that someone has some advice for me that will give me hope.

You sound like me… seriously! I was raised in a strict Catholic family too! Everything I did I was going to hell for! SO of course when I was a teen said to myself OH WELL Im damned anyway why does it matter what I do with my life? First chance I could got married and had a bunch of kids…The older I got the more resentful I got towards my parents the more I had kids the more I needed my family… it’s a double edged sword…My “LOVING” mother would only be happy when i was suffering with my husband…still to this day…it’s a never ending struggle…AND I QUESTIONED EVERYTHING! Now that I am pg with 4th baby, OMG I am overly emotional everything falls apart I found myself for the first time in years blaming GOD! HOW DARE I!!! I couldn’t believe it! I spent so many hours and days praying for forgiveness…

I have learned in my 30 years of life, that nothing is ever as we want them or as we wish we could have them or that GOD answers us when we want Him too or that GOD gives us what we want…

I have learned that HE doesn’t live for US, WE are supposed to live for HIM! TO LOVE HIM AND PRAISE HIM ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE no matter where the road takes us…I suffered all my life without a loving mother, criticizm all my life, I am never going to be good enough for my family…I am devastated and living in fear of how in the world am I going to tell them I am pg, not married anymore, just engaged…those whom know my family history know how horrible it was and how much I have had to endure but thanks to GOD’s mercy I am here enjoying my children, the love I have with fiance and breathing the air I am breathing without problems!!! Without breathing my last breath!

I have learned that every day I can open my eyes is another chance at life that GOD is giving me! It’s another chance to improve myself not to surrender to the horrible things that go on in the world, around my family or my life…

BELIEVE ME! I have wished to die from depression of not knowing love, of being in a marriage full of hate, of seeing my children being manipulated, so much evil so much darkness so much pain and suffering from never being accepted in my family cared for like my other siblings seeing how my mother would mistreat my daughter for her favorite having suicidal thoughts when I was a teen because of stupid mistakes and sins, not knowing where I fit it or why GOD was punishing me!! Why no one in our church cares about us! Why all the rich kids in our CATHOLIC school were appreciated and wanted and not us poor ones? WHy my kids weren’t accepted in the CATHOLIC school that I wanted them to go 3 years ago but they wouldn’t help me yet 2 months later another single mom like myself went to the same church asking for help for her 3 kids and they helped her?! WHY!!! Why do they hate us?! How much pain there is in the world why GOD let good people die or bad things happen to people! WHY GOD WHY! But it’s not for us to decide about that…it’s for GOD to decide…

GOD asked us to pray for others, to love one another as HE has loved us, if you have the opportunity to help in a community to another person in another country do it…and don’t do it so others may know about it, do your part, and GOD is always with you…Even in your quest for knowledge and thirst…HE is always with you…Even in the worst times He’s there giving you the strength you didn’t even know you had, how else would you have made it through so much?! I was almost homeless, got my electricity cut off, went hungry for a little while, was humiliated, destroyed, etc etc etc yet I will not lose faith in GOD…I am pg with a lot of health problems and I can’t lose faith in GOD! I will not let myself!

I almost died in the year 2000…I was driving with my 3 year old daughter, lost control of the vehicle and I was literally destroyed…Both legs broken, neck fractures, in a comma, broken face, I needed complete facial reconstruction, I looked like a monster…and one of my legs was beyond repair…

Because of my sins I shouldnt have been saved because of how a terrible child I was I shouldn’t have been alive! YET for some strange reason GOD had mercy on me and allowed me to live allowed a great doctor to heal me and take care of me and make me well… WHY am I better than anyone else? NO of course not…Even I believe I wasn’t worth saving but He had other plans for me…I went from this gorgeous sinful girl to this ugly deformed and overweight woman now…I have a piece missing from one leg and another that sticks out disgustingly…My face still after almost a decade has scars you can clearly see… YET I am loved…I found a man whom loves me and is actually attracted to my fat *****!!! I feel I am worth being loved…I have learned a lot and feel that GOD left me here to learn love, to love, to care for others and to learn to love GOD! Maybe not so many great important things but i have 3 children to teach about GOD and to show them GOD’s love for us…Every day is a miracle for me…for my children and every day I thank GOD for everything he gives me! FOr the job I still have, for the food in our table, for the roof over our heads!

I don’t stop thanking Him! Without Him there would be no Me nor my children…
I am afraid, being high risk pregnancy of something to go wrong, but I will pray and pray and let GOD’s will be done. He knows what he’s doing…Even in the Bible God stated there will always be poor people, and because of Adam and Eve’s sin we are born to sin and pain and suffering because of our own doing…Not GOD’s doing… So it’s not GOD’s fault that people hurt or people die or people kill each other…

I don’t blame GOD for my mistakes, nor anyone else, I am trying to change to be a better person and to live closer to GOD…I love GOD because of all the love He has for me…Not because I can’t understand His thoughts or ways of thinking or His plans because of every little thing he allows me to see on a daily basis, and everyone I see alive near me and for allowing me one more day of fresh air with my family!

There are different ways you can look at life, life sucks, lol, because of our own choices, but you can learn from them and try to make a better life…even if you are broke! LOL GOD will eventually help you and raise you up and carry you to safety, on HIS own time…not our own…

My parents are on the verge of losing their home, they haven’t stopped working, nor believing in GOD they have learned a little these past few years, to leave it in HIS hands, and so far that’s what they are doing and GOD willing, He will help them and keep them safe! I believe in HIM!

A young boy 22 had a brain tumor, a friend of my dad’s, I pray his surgery was successful…but along with my prayer goes “Let thy will be done, Lord!” I pray he will be fine, and made it well, but only GOD will decide what’s best for this boy!

My nephew, at age 2 years old, got a terrible disease 2 years ago, I was able to research it but my cousin was so desperate she didn’t listen to reason, and was distraught…Baby could have been saved but they were just so deaf and blind from the pain of seeing their baby ill they didn’t listen to anything other than the doctor…I believe GOD allowed me to try and help them but there is so much one person can do…I felt I did my part and that was all I could do…Baby passed away they questioned GOD and everything else, wouldn’t listen to reason…all I did was pray for them…Now they are having their 3rd baby…I pray that GOD allows them to have a healthy baby and a safe pregnancy for mom! 😃 But again let His will be done…

I dont take anything for granted… I don’t and even in the darkest times like this Christmas which we don’t even have a christmas tree yet to celebrate Jesus’ birth, I am not losing faith…I tell my kids we will have one and if we don’t it’s ok we are still here together enjoying our family and hey we can always see everyone else’s trees from the windows! But I have a feeling we will be ok this Christmas! 😃

I am on the verge of losing my job, because i am really ill with this pregnancy but I can not lose hope…I will continue praying that GOD allows me to keep my job for as long as possible!!! And that my health doesn’t take a worst turn! I pray that we make it safely and healthly out of this pregnancy, that he allows me to see my healthy children another day! 😃 It’s the only way for me to live and find peace in all this turmoil!

That’s all we can ask for…btw welcome to the forum…If you need to talk some more I am more than happy to continue our chat…But for now I will have to leave you it’s my most pushing day during this pregnancy I have good days horrible days and days i can push myself yup this is one of them but I will go pass out for several hours and then take care of kids and pass out again, lol, it’s a routine so I might not be back on till tomorrow! Sorry…but i’ll be here again, GOD willing! 😃

I will keep you in my prayers! GOD BLESS!

First off… (((HUGS))) - thank you for sharing your story.

I’m sorry you have had those experiences that have shaken your faith - those kinds of obstacles can be devastating. But do rest assured that there IS a GOD, and He is in LOVE with you, and none of these obstacles have been caused by Him. There is a very real struggle between good and evil in this world - and Satan will do whatever he can to pull you away.

You’re right - what happened to you in high school doesn’t make sense. Perhaps there were good intentions in the policies regarding allowing pregnant students but not married ones, but in practical reality they can appear as contradictory to the teachings of the faith. At this point in your life, your only choice is to forgive and move on. Yes, forgive the administrators, the teachers, the principal, the pastor - everyone.

I understand where you’re coming from as a working mother - it’s terribly hard. I feel that same pressure to be actively participating in the classroom and being looked down on because I work.
But look at your life - look at all the blessings you DO have - your children, a good job - money doesn’t always buy happiness. There are plenty of divorcing, wealthy couples at our Catholic School as well - but then there are also many families in similar situations as ours - working hard to give their children a good education.

God doesn’t choose favorites based on money or appearance - He doesn’t give blessings just to those who pray for stuff they want - and outward blessings aren’t always proof of having a high regard with God - in fact, quite the opposite! Christ asks us to take up the cross and SUFFER WITH HIM… not “ask for blessings and I’ll give it all to you”.

So maybe God was leading you to the public school for a reason! There’s nothing wrong with public schooling! Your job as a parent is to lead and guide your children in the ways of the faith yourself - so you can’t even rely entirely on the Catholic schools to do that for you anyway!

God is very difficult to understand - I’m not sure any of us can fully understand Him. But, that doesn’t mean He doesn’t exist. I also love science and space (I’m an engineer), and I see God’s beautiful creation in all of that! Nothing contradicts God - it can’t because He created it!

As for good people of other faiths going to hell? - I think you need to go back to Catechism class! 😉

Call the local parish priest - find someone you really like and trust - set up an appointment. Make a good Confession. Open up your heart to inviting the TRUE Jesus into your heart this Christmas - not whatever image you currently have of God - but the ONE TRUE GOD who LOVES you and wants nothing else but to be in your life.

Peace be with you - He will not, and has not, abandoned you. 🙂

I like what you have had to say! 😃 Great advise!!! God bless!

To the OP I forgot to mention, also, that I too had problems with my family about having too many children, lol, so believe me there is a lot of things that don’t make sense but my love for GOD is still here…

My fiance said one day he liked another church because they took care of their members, and ours didn’t, they just took from us, I told him I didn’t go to the church to worry about the members or how they looked at us, I went to church to praise GOD…I didn’t care what they think or not, the point is to keep the Sabbath according to the Bible which is to at least dedicate one day in His house, which is the church…And that’s why I do it…not to please others…

GOD BLESS!

I havent read the other posts yet but I needed to reply to you. I almost couldnt get thru it I wanted to reply so bad.
We have a lot of similarities. I am 34, and a year ago I nearly died after a brain surgery that went from bad to worse. I ended up with 6 surgeries and meningitis and MRSA and a shunt in my brain. At one point I was in so much pain I was begging to die…the pain was unbearable. That was when i prayed to St Jude. It was the next day that My shunt was ordered, and I began to get better from there. I do know that I am grateful for having my prayers answered. At the same time, I feel like I do not deserve to have them answered, and therefore it can not be t hat this was a gift from God, because God wouldnt bother with me when there are far better people out there asking for help they will never receive. I know God has reason, I just cant imagine whyyy.

I want to tell you, and anyone listening, a little story.
3 years ago I was told my weight ( only been over weight since marriage and children ) was killing me, and that if I did not do something quickly I could die. I already knew this since I was miserable.
My doctor wanted me to get weight loss surgery. I prayed so hard…soooooo hard…but I was denied that surgery because my insurance doesnt cover it. So I prayed again while at mass and asked God to help me with this, whether it was the surgery or thru some other means. I got a strong and distinct feeling…almost a vision, of God saying to me “I will help you with this”. I was jouyous and excited. I tried everything…exercise and diets and books and so on. My depression would take over and I would end up worse than before. So maybe what I thought was a message from God was a moment of insanity. Of wishful thinking. But why would God allow that? And why would he deny me help when I have begged from the bottom of my heart for help?

I do not need to go back to catechism class, I was raised with it from birth. I was taught that unless you are baptized in the water of the spirit, and unless you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you may not enter the gates of heaven. I am pretty sure Buddhists and Muslims and many other faiths do neither of these.
I do not feel the need to be wealthy or popular or have lots of material things. I do not long for or seek out any of that. What I do feel is important is that the people we look up to, the leaders of our faith and parish communities be people who are there in a giving and loving spirit, to shephard people in, not be consumed by who will be voted president of the ladies club or who baked the best pie for the social.

I have offered my time and services to my church repeatedly for years. I have encouraged my children to do so as well so we could help out and give of ourselves together. Yet again and again I have heard them plead at mass for volunteers to help with everything from decorating to cleaning to singing at mass. Again and again I offer my time, and have always been turned down. The people I always see at every function are those who make large donations, who drive expensive cars and seem to spend more at the salon than I do on utilities. It just has always seemed to be the way of things…and maybe thats a part of life and human nature, but it does not make me want to be a part of things. It does not make me feel welcomed in. I dont think it has to be this way. I have friends who used to be catholic, but now go to local christian churches instead because the atmosphere is more warm and welcoming and encouraging, while still celebrating Jesus and what he was trying to teach us.

hey, 4Jude, come join my parish. You would love it!

I’m adding you to my prayer list today. And, in return, I’ll ask for prayers for my sister who is in a hopeless place.

I do have advice for you. I think God is calling you to embrace the community of saints. I think you will find the love you desire in Our Blessed Mother’s heart. Pray the rosary and ask her to bring you consolation and faith.

Another recommendation I have is to go to the Eucharist in daily Mass and adoration.

This is a short life…a wounded world.

Hello J&P, I pray things improve for you. In regards to the saving of non-Catholics, the Church has come a long way since Vatican II. Check out articles 839-848 of the Catechism.

scborromeo.org/ccc/p123a9p3.htm#IV

Specifically,

Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.

God Bless…

Thank you for following up on this… I meant to post the Catechism links as well - I appreciate it! 🙂

Everything HE does for a reason…I feel the same way…I don’t ask for help not because i am a proud person but because I believe there are others in need more than I! BUT this year I realized I needed help and a good friend of mine helped me… Now i don’t feel so bad asking for help… And praying to GOD for help and thanking Him for everything He’s done for you and your loved ones is what He wants…He wants you to trust in HIM to put all your burdens and your pain and suffering into his hands! GIRL I AM 250 lbs I have been over weight since my last marriage and 3 kids, overly depressed etc… I am thankful to GOD for allowing me to live!!! I am grateful that I am not dying!!! AND eternally grateful I have a good man that loves me and a bunch of kids that drive me nuts! Couldn’t live my life anyother way!! EVER!!! I have so many gray hairs I look older than my mother! Seriously! people think we’re sisters! 😦 And I am almost 30 years younger!!! 😦 BUT that’s life! lol I didn’t take care of myself allowed myself to get into a deep depression during and after my marriage had a rough time as a single mother without any help things became overwhelming and it wasn’t GOD’s fault…Even if i was tempted to blame Him for it… I have been wanting to lose weight for so long I gave up!!! LOL but now I am pregnant and hopefully GOD will help me and guide me so that after the baby i have the strength and ability to go work out and take care of myself and finally lose some weight…I don’t want to look like no Nicole Kidman or anything like that but believe me at 160 lbs i would be so happy!! LOL I’m not pushing for much!! LOL Trying to be reasonable!!! lol

I don’t give up on things, well except for my weight work in progress…I might be down on problems and worries for one or two days maybe even a week or two but eventually I listen to the little voice that GOD sends you when you’re not expecting it and I finally wake up and say, GOD I AM SO SORRY I AM STUPID THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME I LOVE YOU PLEASE FORGIVE ME AND PLEASE HAVE MERCY ON ME!! LOL I might even add in there THANK YOU FOR BEING PATIENT WITH ME lol! 😦 horrible child of GOD I am horrible!!! let me tell you!

I am a hypocrite but i am learning not to be…I am a sinner and trying soooooooooo hard not to be, i am not perfect only GOD is and I don’t plan on being perfect, but I can surely try to live under Jesus’ image and rules…and I am trying…I want to be able to reach heaven with my family…and praise GOD together…I would love that very much!

A friend of mine whom doesn’t believe in GOD told me, something, what if all this is not real there is no god and nothing you will feel stupid when we die and just stay buried…then I looked at him and said…fine what if it is real and there is a GOD, wouldn’t you rather live a good and Holy life trying to be closer to GOD, than living a life of non belief for when the end of times GOD comes down infront of you to judge you you end up going to hell for NOT BELIEVING IN HIM and feeling stupid for not believing in HIM? I rather believe than not believe just in case!!! Better safe than sorry that’s all i gotta say!!!

Besides even scientifically I read that now 90% of scientists at least are starting to believe in a supreme being in GOD, where as only 10% still stick with their nonbelief…What in the world has changed so much that now even science is accepting GOD as a scientific answer to their unanswered questions? Something to think about eh??? Even athiests have written that perhaps they are foolish in believing there is no GOD since there is nothing that can actually prove otherwise? I read someone say if there is no GOD but you have no proof that there is no GOD then how can it be true that there is no GOD???

GOD chooses the ones to be his martyrs remember at the end of times there will be martyrs whom will suffer and endure in HIS NAME! Why only GOD knows why…Why did he leave me in this world? I know why to raise my children, learn about HIM and learn to LOVE HIM better… I believe that is my purpose…And to pass it down to my children and hopefully their children…

What’s your purpose you need to figure it out… GOD tells us we just have to learn to listen…you know?!

Oh about the weight thing, he doesn’t deny you the help, lol, the govt controls the insurances not GOD, lol… Remember we all have free will and we choose what we want… He doesn’t have us like robots obeying his rules even though I think the world would be a better place but He wants us to love Him and obey Him from our own hearts and souls not by force… What you need to do is seek help, I fight against myself to get out of my depressions… lol… And then I get motivated and go on with life… Find a workout buddy, and go to the gym, the best way you will see yourself losing weight is if you really dedicate yourself…I was told by a nutricionist that I would need to work out at least 2 hours every day to see weightloss, OMG seriously?! I gave up the first 2 weeks!!! 😦 Too lazy…not GOD’s fault!! so sacrifices must be made…If you can’t afford a gym go walk around your block like 10 times each day…and don’t quit…the more you excercise the more your body produces what it needs to make you not be so hungry all the time and not over stuff yourself believe me I do that all the time well not right now because my appetite has been kind of slow from my pregnancy but as I am advancing I can feel myself get hungrier man I don’t want to gain anymore weight! 😦 lol So anyhow take the kids out to the park walk down a park trail for a few hours go on picnics with them it’s not that difficult you know?! Just have to find the right motivation…if your health is not good enough then do it for your kids…so you can see your grandkids some day maybe even great grandkids! 😃 i think my grandma might be able to see great great grandkids! LOL Thank GOD she’s in excellent health! I thank GOD all the time!!! It’s just sticking with it you know?! It’s a lot of work but you gotta stick with it…Hello fiance is almost 6ft tall and weighs around 170 lbs, he gained 20 lbs last year and this year started working and all ready in 3 months lost 20 lbs…do you have any idea how much I wished I could lose 20 lbs and the man eats everything and anything without any problems at all!!! 😦 But that’s his metabolism, it’s great! His dad’s is like that too all they get are beer bellies and lose them just as fast! I am fat all over! 😦 LOL But hopefully after the baby I will motivate myself GOD WILLING to get healthy and lose the weight!! Not God’s fault I am fat…you know?!

I am telling you just stop trying to fit in with the members of your church…remember church isn’t supposed to be for whom shows the best car or money or jewelry so stop listening to them they don’t want you to volunteer then don’t!!! Just do it without anyone else knowing for something else… Like the make a wish foundation, you can contact them and there are other charity places that will be so eternally grateful that you donated your time and efforts…you know? You don’t need to stick with your church only to donate your time and love and care for Jesus and others in need you know? It’s not the end of the world and it’s not GOD doing that to you…It’s the people in your church…You think God doesn’t see what’s going on but GOD has His plans and His plans are not our plans we just gotta hold on to what we got and what we can and thank HIM For everything from the bottom of our hearts and love Him eternally and go out and help those in need without asking for recognition…Who cares if they don’t want your help go find someone else to help…I will never fit in with my church…ever…and I don’t care… I love GOD and He knows I do and when I help I don’t do it so someone else can know or I can get someone’s approval… Don’t lose hope and don’t feel bad…some people are just that way…AND the reason of the baptism is because of John the Baptist he even Baptised JESUS!!! To save us from the original sin of Adam and Eve…It only makes sense…You know?! Not something to not like on the contrary I thank GOD I was baptised, and my children were too, I wouldn’t want to live knowing that it’s in the Bible how John baptised Jesus for our own salvation and askes us in order to be free from the original sin…something to think about…especially since JESUS died for us and for our salvation…That’s a huge sacrifice from the son of GOD! And from GOD for us…

4JudeAndPhilo…so many of us have been where you are with questioning.

The difference between Catholics and “health and wealth gospels” is that we are know we are called to a life of carrying a cross with Christ. Suffering is not a punishment and good things a reward, on this earth. Suffering turns into a gift when we offer it up. Easier said than done, I know! When bad things happen, God is not punishing us, he is allowing us to use the opportunity to be sanctified. God doesn’t always answer our prayers in the way we want, if we expect that of him, we fall into a “God as a magical, wish-granting genie” theology. I have often been frustrated by unanswered prayers, especially when the prayer intentions were honorable and meant for the good of people. How could God turn these down, I questioned. I thought God personally hated me. But He has his way, and he is not promising us all our earthy desires but he is offering for us to enter into a relationship with him, one that will carry into eternity.
The apostles knew God personally, and it did not secure them into a life of luxury, only martyrdom.

There are some very sinful people who have earthly success, so I do not measure God’s love of me by the treasures I have here on earth. Remember, the meek shall inherit the earth…

As far as studying science making you feel like there may not be a God. I often wonder how people can see the vastness of creation and admire it, but not see a Creator. You know, there is this huge myth that science and the Church do not mesh. This is a lie meant to scare Christians away from God because it is not “logical.” Most of the great scientists of the world have been Catholic. Education as we know it was developed by the Church in what was known as cathedral schools and the idea of colleges followed soon after. I read the other day that when Kepler could not afford a telescope, it was a priest who purchased one for him. It was Catholics developed the scientific method and many of the laws of science that we rely on today. The list of advancement due to the Church is endless. The Church has NEVER discouraged science and is always pleased when we discover the more wonders of the universe because those are all God’s work.

I hear you on members of your church being stuck-up or materialistic. This is something they will have to work out with God. The Church is a hospital for sinners, not a hotel for saints. I think of Padre Pio or St. Therese who were mistreated by their peers in their day. They never lost faith in the Church. NEVER. The Church is bigger than any one person’s sin.

ILuv…Preach it, girl! I did not know all of these things that have happened to you. Praise God for your steadfast faith.

Good advise Mercy!! And yeah it’s life! LOL It’s ok…Just learning to accept things and to accept my mistakes, I am not a fast learner I can tell you that much but I thank GOD he’s so patient with me! 😦 LOL It’s not always been there girl believe me I have failed and fallen many times, in 30 years barely now I feel I am a bit happier and content with my life, and even though I feel like I’m in hell (pregnancy issues) I thank GOD this hell is nothing like the one I may be condemned to if I don’t hurry up and change my ways!! Work in progress…very slow work in progress…

This is a beautiful reply. My 30 year marriage ended when my ex found a 13 year old younger women. Then, for the first time in my life, I developed serious health issues.

I don’t want to make this about myself, so I will just add-your reply helped me and I’m going to print it out to keep! 🙂

Plainsong, I am so sorry to hear about your situation - hugs and prayers for you on this end…

4Jude,

If you are losing your faith, then the place to find it is in Jesus. Go to confession to put yourself into a state of grace. Then, adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle and pray that He will increase your faith. Do this an hour per day. Seriously, don’t wimp out on the time, for if God is real - then your soul might be at stake, and that is worth any time investment.

Maybe you don’t believe He is there if you are losing his faith. However, look at it this way: If He IS there, and you are truly open to receiving Him in your heart, then you will be helped by doing this. Jesus loves you more than any human possibly could.

He loves you so much that he freely endured the worst tortures that humans could conceive of just so that you might have eternal life. Meditate upon Christ.

Think less about the problems you are facing, and think more on Jesus. Ironically, doing so will help you more with the problems you are facing.

I will pray for you.

God Bless,

I’d suggest two books, no, make that three…

Hello 4JudeAndPhilo
I am so sorry for your suffering.May God bless you for ‘Trying to hold on to faith’.

What an amazing person you are to have been treated so poorly by people at your parish and throughout your life who represent God’s Church and yet you still seek to do the ‘right thing’.

All I can say is, on behalf of all these’catholics’ who have treated you so unfairly and hurt you,I apologise.
I cannot explain their actions for you but I apologise on their behalf.
We are called to be Christ-like in all we do. Jesus taught us to love everyone. We are called to ‘not judge one another’,to forgive those who trespass against us.To give of ourselves freely not just in money but in love thought and deed to others in ‘The Corporal Works of Mercy’.

Feed the hungry
Give drink to the thirsty
Clothe the naked
Shelter the homeless
Visit the sick
Visit those in prison
Bury the dead

Mt 25:34 “Then the King will say to those at his right hand, ’Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ’Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink?’ And the king will answer them, ’Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of my brethren, you did it to me.’”

We are to treat every one we meet as Christ Himself.
I pray for those who treated you so poorly that God will forgive them.

All we can do in situations like this is pray to God.You can try changing to another parish.

God loves you especially for seeking Him…
I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. - Proverbs 8:17

Regarding people who are wealthy…
Matthew 19:24 “Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
You are a remarkable good person whom God loves.God bless you.
