Trying to learn how to pray the Rosary.

I have read about how to do it but I can’t understand they page I found and I also don’t understand a few abbreviations. What do V and R mean?

They mean Verse and Response, respectively. You may see verse and response come into play in a public recitation of prayer. The Hail Mary in public recitation is divided into a verse and a response. So, if you go and observe you will hear a one person saying Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus

and then the whole group, which was silent before suddenly chimes in and together the leader and the group continue Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death amen

First to answer your last question. The V and R are verse and refrain. You don’t have to worry about that if you are praying by yourself.

As for how to pray:
  • First you bless yourself: “In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit” as you make the sign of the cross.
  • Grab the crucifix and pray the Apostles Creed
  • Grab the first bead right after the crucifix and pray the Our Father.
  • Grab the next bead and pray the Hail Mary. Do it again on the next two beads. These beads are for faith, hope, and love.
  • Grab the space right after the last bead and pray the Glory Be.
  • Grab the next bead, say the first mystery, then the Our Father.
  • Now skip the part called the center, it is either a metal piece of large bead, you will pray there later.
  • Grab the first bead in the circle part and pray the Hail Mary.
  • Do this 9 more times.
  • Grab the space after the bead and pray the Glory Be.
  • Grab the next bead, say the second mystery, and pray the Our Father.
  • Keep going like this until you go through all the beads in the big circle part.
  • Now you should be back at the center, grab it and pray the Hail, Holy Queen.
  • Grab the crucifix and make the sign of the cross.
  • The End! 😃
