Trying to seek conversion and really struggling with depression and discouragement

I just had confession this morning and the whole day I’ve been overwhelmed by how I’m supposed to live the way I’m supposed to live. The “fewness of the saved” by St. Leonard was helpful in quickening me, but at this point I feel paralyzed with fear, depressed and devoid of joy. I feel like I’ve wasted the jubilee year of mercy, and it seems like I’ve been pushed down all day by depression. I really need to find a spiritual director and a psychiatrist in the new place I’ve moved, because the support I’ve usually had is gone now and with someone who struggles with mental issues navigating conversion usually results in me burning out, full of resentment and anger towards God. The Priest I confessed to told me that I need to be happy, cultivate happiness, but the road ahead is hard, painful and impossible without God’s grace. It just keeps tormenting me how easy it is to fail at this. I just got out of confession and already I feel like a mess.

I can certainly identify with what you are saying as I too deal with depression. In order to have a support group for your mental health issues, I would recommend (if you are in the U.S.) to go to: www.dbsalliance.org to find depression support groups in your area. DBSA stands for Depression Bipolar Support Alliance. Even though name does not reflect every possible mental health diagnosis, this groups welcomes ALL with mental health diagnoses; families, friends and significant others. I will certainly keep you in prayer.

As an aside, I don’t understand why some people just post a prayer (i.e. mercy prayer) rather than providing the support the posting individual is looking for! I would imagine there are other places on the site to post prayers and that I would think it more appropriately to say one is praying for the posted individual.
 
Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance, direction, strength, fortitude & wisdom in your time of need.

Praying for your intentions Bdonoho. I pray that wel all will overcome this battle with depression. I say we because I struggle with it too, as well as anxiety. May God’s grace continue to fill your life as well as give you the strength to persevere and eventually overcome it.

Perhaps these feelings are more common than we realize. Remember that even Mother Teresa suffered with doubts even as she prayed daily and went about doing her very difficult ministry. It gives me hope, as I too suffer with self-doubt. May God grant you peace as you seek for him and I pray you find someone to talk to you.
