Ok so we have three wonderful girls. 6, 5, 2 and we use NFP Sympto thermal and ladycomp. We have decided that we do not need to space anymore and are ready to conceive. All three of our kids were conceived on NFP foul ups made by us. IE having marital relations in (red light) times. 2 months ago we were active on a red light time and nothing and last month we actively tried during red light time. I was under the impression that we were the kind of couple that was fertile to a fault but perhaps that isn’t true. I know it is only two months but I was wondering if it is normal for a couple that has 3 NFP slip ups to have any trouble trying to conceive?

I don’t know the answer to your question except that I find it a little bit amusing. I have had five children while actively avoiding conception (but being very relaxed about it). Had a sixth just recently which was planned. Was conceived by waiting for ovulation day by charting symptoms, not temp. We were aiming for a boy and got one.

I’m amused because God seems to give us what He plans, not what we plan. Our original plan was for three kids.

I wonder, would you mind telling me a bit more about the ladycomp? I’m considering getting one, but it’s a big expense and hubby is very worried about it not being accurate. Were your “foul ups” made with knowledge that there was a chance of conception? How long does the red light phase last?

Thanks (and I hope I haven’t hijacked the thread)

No problem. My wife has used ladycomp and likes it. We havent used it in about 6 months. It is pretty conservative and you get a lot of “yellow lights” until it has enough info to be more accurate. I find it amusing that “natural” family planning involves a computer telling us when we can and cant be intimate…🤷
Every single one of our foul ups were made with complete knowledge.

There is a cheaper alternative to the ladycomp: the Cyclotest. It’s the ladycomp’s german version and while it’s the same it also allows you to chart mucous or another variable.

They do say that for the first 6 cycles or so you get more yellow lights while the computer figures out the pattern and charts probabilities (based on the thousands of cycles stored) but once that"s established you get your regular 3 red days and about 3-6 yellow, for a regular cycle.

If you are also charting kucous and already know your cycles, you can chose to ignore the extra days. If you do not know how to chart or how your cycles work, stick to the computer and be patient.

And, no, the computer doesnt tell you when to make love, it tells you when you are fertile and when you are not, YOU chose when/ if. to make love.

Our first little blessing was sent to us when we were TTA but being less than cautious.

Our next was after five cycles trying. The one after that was four cycles trying. And this one was four cycles. I don’t think it’s that unusual for it to take a few cycles of trying!
