The consequences of sin are very grave indeed.Regardless of how well the Church comes out at the end, these proceedings will still translate into many millions lost that could of gone into much more worthy causes and ministries.
I have been praying for them, sorry I or anyone here failed to mention that.No one on this thread has offered a prayer or shown compassion for the victims, how sad.![]()

What? The victims have been shown compassion and many pray for them, perhaps when they show up for the check, they seem alot less like victims.
(emphasis mine)As a parishoner within the diocese of San Diego, I don’t take these lawsuits lightly. But if the Church has not responded to other attempts at justice, then **I guess hitting *them ***in the wallet is a logical next step.
While I appreciate your frustration, I think your anger is a little misdirected. You are mad a lawyers, but what about the evil men who did the abusing? How about the Bishops that facilitated their abuse? Yes, the innocent suffer, but the lawyers wouldn’t have a case had the clergy not offered their head on a platter. These payouts are offensive and nerve-wracking to many innocent parishioners whose practice of the faith may be impaired for something that they are not even responsible for.
Well Nohome, what if it were your parish that had to close as a result of these settlements? No Catholic should have to share in the punishment of Priests or Bishops who committed or facilitated abuse, simply because they are a part of the same Church, and who didn’t have any knowledge of the abuse until the courts or media exposed it.While I appreciate your frustration, I think your anger is a little misdirected. Nohome
If it were my church, I would be angry at the church officials that opened my parish up to such incredible liability. That is the root cause of this problem. I’m not saying the lawyers are just in their action, nore am I saying multi-million dollars settlements are fair. All I’m saying is it was the priests and bishops that led these parishes into such a mess.Well Nohome, what if it were your parish that had to close as a result of these settlements?
