Amen. A coming together of the secular and the religious for the glory of God!

The article is miseading. This is not a Benedictine monastery. It is real estate that once had another purpose.

Is the new owner is calling it a Benedictine monastery? Sometimes when Church property is sold there is a provision prohibiting the use of the Catholic label going forward.

Either way I’m not sure that’s a good or legal use of real estate

It’s a local newspaper and the locals know the place as the ‘Benedictine monastery’. I’m not sure what the new owner wants to call it, ‘student housing’ or something like that. What I don’t get is why it’s called a monastery and not a convent. The sisters called it a convent.

The closing mass with the Benedictine sisters was very sad. We hated losing their community and their beautiful chapel. At the closing mass they shared with us that they hoped their prayer life and their spirit would remain with the building. It’s been depressing passing by it with the ‘No Trespassing’ signs and yellow barrier tape. I glad the sisters hopes are being realized.

So sad your community lost that convent. It’s fine that the building be used for persons in need (not a political statement). Ideally there should be a plaque or visible recognition of the many years of ministry there.

The problem is that some places later take on another identity contrary to Catholic teaching, yet the name lingers on. This confusion, sometimes intentional, hurts.
