Turning down the papacy

Hi, I’ve tried to to find the answer to this but I haven’t been able to, so I’m hoping you folks can help me out. 🙂

I was watching a video about how the conclave works. It said that after X amount of days, if no one has gotten 2/3 of the vote, then only the top 2 vote-getters are allowed to be voted on. My question is, what happens if both of those men decline to be pope?

The cardinals in question would stated such long before the final vote, and the voting would proceed in a different direction.

I just sort of wonder if maybe they have a change of heart once they actually are elected.

I think anyone who is a Cardinal knows that it is at least a possibility and will probably think a good deal about the matter before it even becomes an issue.

They none of them are ignorant of what the role entails, and most are not unwilling to take on hard jobs either.
