Is nobody else watching this show? It’s like a throwback to 1980’s soaps like Dallas and Dynasty. Basically, the show is a hip-hop remake of Shakespeare’s King Lear, with record label mogul Lucius having to deal with ALS and deciding which of his sons (CFO Andre, bling-bling player Hakeem, and songwriter type Jamal) will claim the company when he’s gone. And it looks like there will be a huge cat fight - can I say that on here? - between Cookie (the ex-wife) and his fiancee. As “Nashville,” which I used to really like, has gotten cornier and cornier, “Empire” seems to have come along at just the right time.
