Prime example of different sense of humors, I LOVE Friends. I own all the seasons on dvds and I will watch a random episode when I’ve had a bad day. I think it appeals to me because my life was pretty similar to that show, single, hung out at the coffee shop with a mixed group of friends. Saw much of my life depicted in that sitcom.

Seinfeld though I never did get. I don’t get the humor in The Office either, though everyone keeps telling me its hilarious.
I used to love Friends when it first came on. I’m the same age as the Friends I was Rachel - DH was Ross. We even broke up. But now I watch it and cannot relate and I don’t like it.

Things I found funny and still do:

Abbott and Costello

I love lucy

the golden girls

and Raymond…I watch with the baby before bed. I call it “The Mommy and Papa show” not that we are like Raymond and Deborah…but we seem to have the same in-laws. 😃

Cat, my Grandfather loved Benny Hill, even though he used a hearing aid and did not speak English. He thought his name was Tony Keel.

I can’t stand Raymond for the exact reason of his parents on the show. It hits way too close to home for me to find any humor in the situation.

Which just goes to show you, personal experience and situations can definitely affect what one finds humorous and what one finds a real turn off. Doesn’t make one sense of humor any better than another. But I thank God every day that He did give us a sense of humor, I don’t know how I would survive this world without it.

I don’t think it is nice to laugh at other’s misfortunes, but I do agree what one person considers a misfortune is not the same as someone else. I am the type if you caught me falling on video and people laughed I would be hurt. But that is not to say someone else may not mind. I think some of the falls are remarkable that someone did not get hurt which is perhaps why they are appealing to some.

I did see one clip that was in horrid taste, I woman was pregant and she already had a son and a daughter. The camera was on the 2 kids when she told them the gender of the baby. It was going to be a girl and her daughter started to jump up and down screaming ‘yes, yes’. The son started to REALLY cry and was very upset that it wasn’t going to be a boy. I though that was cruel to show a video of your son crying because he just got some news that really hurt him. Then the host asked the boy if he was over it and the boy was embarrassed. I though that was cruel.

On the most part, even though it is not my cup of tea, I don’t think it is too immoral either

PS, I see nothing wrong with a dog drinking out of a toilet, after it waste has been flushed out

I too enjoy AFV. I watch it with my family sometimes. I do take comfort in the fact that all the clips were sent in voluntarily.

I’ve also had AFV used as a teaching aid. It was for method of injury in my EMT class. My teacher would roll a clip, and then we would analyze potential injuries.

This is the key. Obviously, if I witnessed some random person slip and fall on ice, out of concern I would help the person up and make sure they were alright. The last thing I would do is laugh. But if I went to help the person up and they started laughing at themselves and made light of the situation I would certainly join in. This is what AFV is, the person is laughing at themselves after the fact and sharing the humor with the rest of this. Obviously if the person I helped up from the ice fall was embarrassed and horrified, or seriously hurt, I would never, ever laugh at them.

Of course, we’re assuming that the people in the video’s consented to the video being sent in. There’s not always a way to be sure, but if they consented and even sent the video in themselves, I see no reason not to join them in having a good laugh.

Tom Bergeron has a handicapped brother or sister. I wonder how he would like it if we found something to laugh about that person?
My son uses a wheelchair. He is almost as funny as me. We laugh at/because of him on a daily basis. Handicapped people should not be funny?🤷 He would love to be on AFV!

It surprises me that no one agreed with my original post.

People here saying that it’s good to have a sense of humor – by making fun of other people getting hurt?

Three Stooges was acting, but AFV are videos of real people getting hurt or in otherwise bad situations.

Maybe this one old lady wasn’t hurt when she fell down, but that’s not true of most old people who fall down. Thanks for everybody who replied, but I’m not convinced that these videos of people getting hurt are humorous.

I still would never want my dog to eat cat poo or drink out of a toilet. You people are sick. If your dog is drinking out of a toilet, it means that you’re not providing this animal clean, fresh water where it should be. C’mon.

Gee, of all the things on tv this is what you have an issue with!? It must be hard for you to have it on when you don’t personally enjoy it, but really, with maybe an exception here and there it’s a very decent show! I watch it with my grandkids, and I’m VERY old-fashioned and choosy about what they (and I ) watch.

God BlessYou~

Dude, I don’t have a dog, but I have seen them eat things much worse that drinking out of a toilet, and these are dogs that I know have a fresh bowl of food and water at home waiting for them. I don’t find it funny, but I don’t think its a morally reprehensible thing that someone let their dog do it (drink out of a toilet bowl).

If people were actually getting hurt in the videos, the show would have been forced off the air a long, long time ago. This show has been around for at least a decade, if not more in one form or another.

And its not so much that a dog owner WANTS the dog to drink out of the toilet or eat inappropriate things. But they’re quick and they will do things that are kinda gross, but still can be humorous.

Oh, and about people getting hurt, while I really don’t find the ones where people look like they could have gotten seriously hurt, I have seen a few where the person does something where they clearly weren’t thinking well, or they expected a different outcome, etc, and they have gotten mildly hurt, and come out laughing, and some of them have been funny.

Going back to the dogs, I find it more disgusting to see a dog licking a baby’s face or their owners face (especially around the mouth) simply because I know dogs aren’t discerning about what they put in their mouth or touch with their tongue, and like I mentioned before, I have seen good, well taken care of dogs put all sorts of disgusting things in their mouths.

I agree on the dogs licking people’s faces. We don’t allow that in our house for that reason.

Animals are a lot like kids in the fact that they will test the limits to see what they can get away with. We have a cat who drinks out of the toilet. He doesn’t do it for lack of fresh water. Our animals have 3 water bowls thoughtout the house that are changed out on a daily basis. This particular cat is just quirky. No we don’t allow it. In fact we have discouraged it to the point he sneaks a drink from the toilet. For the record yes we keep the lid down. He shoves his head in between the lid and the seat, turkey!😛

No matter how well trained an animal is if they really want to do something they will do it.

Have you ever owned a dog? Or a cat? Believe me, it is not for lack of clean water and fresh food that they go poking around in the toilet or trash can. My cat routinely ignores her water dish in favor of the toilet (flushed, of course!). Why? I don’t know, but there it is. It’s certainly not any dirtier than the water she drinks from puddles and downspouts when she goes outside. My dog seems to think the labels on cans make a great treat. I think it’s hilarious to watch him try to lick and rip them off, and if I had a video of it, I’d probably send it in to AFV. Lighten up!

AFV?

Well… sophisticated? Nope. Mature? Nope. Tasteful? Nope. Educational? Nope. Dignified? Nope.

Funny? Yep.
