TV Show blessing

Quick question. I listen to a lot of recorded shows from EWTN. Often times when the show is done by a priest the priest will bless the viewers and studio audience. Do those who watch the show from home receive the blessing? What if it was recorded and from awhile ago? Do those who watch it years later, maybe even after that priest has died, receive the blessing?
 
I agree, and I make the sign of the cross as well. But what if its older? What if for example that priest is no longer alive. Does the blessing transcend time to still be bestowed upon you?

That’s a good question. I know Jimmy Akin and Trent Horn (or was it Tim Staples?) are disagreeing over whether our prayers can affect the past- it would be nice to see them address whether our prayers (or blessings) can affect the future.
 
I know you can’t get the indulgence for the Pope’s Urbi ex Orbi blessing unless you are listening or watching it live. But as for the actual blessing, I see no reason why God would not allow some sort of blessing to impart to one watching a pre-recorded version. The priest may not have the power to bless at any time except live on the spot, but God certainly has the power to convey some grace any time.

Interesting. It is true of course about there being no past or present with God, so logic would suggest that it could be efficacious.
 
As I see it, the blessing over holy water is similar. The priest will bless it at one point with a view to that blessing being applied in the future. After all, the water remains elementally the same. It is the blessing by the priest that makes it a sacramental.

Also, I very much believe that prayer can be effect forward or backward in time. I find that the only way to reconcile certain philosophical issues about the nature of God and everything. _

Have faith that you got blessed, and you we be.
 
When I visited the EWTN studios in Alabama I was told that it is still an open question. At that time, the Church in Rome was leaning toward no for previously recorded shows. Live TV is accepted, even with the 7 second delay. There was a lot of debate surrounding Bishop Fulton Sheen’s show in particular.

I don’t know if anything has recently changed, but I choose to believe that I am receiving God’s blessing. I figure that he appreciates the fact that I just watched a good Catholic show.
 
I think the Vatican is wise to lean towards “no.” They must be weary of wide-sweeping consequences of saying recorded blessings have spiritual efficacy. Image videos popping up on YouTube with pre-recorded blessings from your favorite TV priests or popes. Then what’s next? Recordings of absolution, plenary indulgences and another nuptial blessing on your wedding anniversary?
