Has anyone else watched this show? What did you think of it?

I only saw part of the pilot episode that aired last night, which airs Mondays at 8:00 CST on The CW channel. More at: Jane the Virgin on The CW You can watch episodes at this site.

I think the premise is ridiculous: Jane, who is a 23 yr old devout Latina woman, has pledged to remain a virgin until marriage, but becomes pregnant through a doctor’s mishandling of a speciman at the in-vitro clinic. It’s unclear (to me) why Jane is there; maybe for an exam.

But perhaps the show has some merit as questions regarding Life issues, such as In-vitro fertilization, fidelity in marriage, religion and out-of-wedlock motherhood are brought up. I like the Grandma character. Jane’s mother was a teen mom. During this episode, we find out that Grandma wanted her to get an abortion, but later tells Jane she is happy she did not. Also, Jane’s mother tells her she is glad she gave birth to her. The male characters are not just “wallpaper”, either.

I plan to watch a few more episodes.
Perhaps this show could be a starting point for conversations with others (perhaps esp. the younger generation) as to morality, sex outside of marriage (and what the Church teaches).

From the promos, I have absolutely no desire to watch it.

It appears to be a farce designed to belittle the Virgin Mary and the Immaculate Concepcion.

Yes it appears to do that.

I don’t know if you are already aware of this, but if you are, please do not take offense.

The Immaculate Conception does not pertain to Mary conceiving Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit, but to Mary’s conception in the womb of her Mother, St. Anne
Mary was conceived without the stain of original sin. Hence the Immaculate Conception.

Sounds like another “pop culture twists religion” to suit their bizarre minds for entertainment.

Thats exactly what I thought when I saw the ‘teasers’ for this new show.

I think they are trying to say, its possible for ANY virgin to become pregnant, with the use of modern technology, basically saying the virgin mother was nothing special compared to our modern medical technology, but done in a very subtle way.

I think this show will cause alot of younger people to question whether the TRUE virgin mother was anything special, since modern man apparently COULD achieve a ‘virgin pregnancy’.

Maybe the next show they come up with will be some doctor accidentally creates a way for ANYONE to return from the dead and go on living ( in an attempt to discredit Jesus coming back from the dead)!
