I’m a HUGE fan of The Office (American version, haven’t yet seen the UK original series). Any others out there? My favorite character is Dwight.
 
I didn’t get to watch last night, but I’m a definate fan. Reminds me of Office Space . . .

Last night was really good. One of the best ones yet. It was implied that Dwight and Angela are dating.

Office Space is definitely in my top ten favorite comedies.
 
The thing about the American version is it is about a fictional paper company in Scranton, but they were not too subtle about which company it is implied to be about. In the first show, they actually showed the building where there is a paper based product company in Scranton is headquartered. The company was in panic mode and ordring their employees not to talk to the media.

The UK version is so much better, but the American version is good too. You can buy the British version on dvd, I highly recommend it! British humor suits me, dry and witty.
 
We have the British version on DVD - it’s pretty funny but sometimes naughty in the British tradition (they can say thingson public TV we can’t so be warned…).
I think you can rent the UK version?
 
I absolutely LOVE the OFFICE…so, are Angela and Dwight dating? Was that 'them" at the end of the party? Was the episode when Dwight and Michael duked it out at the Dojo too funny or what (when your a Jet your a Jet all the way…).

If I can, I do NOT miss that show…I LOVE IT!
 
I love The Office. We watch “Earl” and “The Office” every Tues night, except tonight, which is just as well because my 8 year old wants to watch the American girl movie Tonight. Talk to you all next week about the next episode!

After threads about LOST and Battlestar Galactica it’s time we had a thread about another great show on television: The Office.

The premise of The Office is that a documentary crew has come to a paper-supply company in Pennsylvania to film them and their lives. What we see is them going about their business with occassional interviews. Don’t get too hung up on the structure–I’m just explaining why the characters sometimes look at the camera or are interviewed. The presence of the cameras sometimes make the characters cut off their conversations or be careful in what they are saying.

(The show is based on the British show of the same name. From what I’ve seen on youtube, the British show is much, MUCH more vulgar and crude and not as clever as the American version. If you see the British version on youtube, please do not think it represents the American version well)

The main character is Michael, the boss. He is a strange guy who tries to be funny, especially for the cameras. He is coarse, rude and self-absorbed, yet strangely effective.

The story really revolves around Jim and Pam. Jim is the office practical joker and likable, “normal” guy. Pam is the office secretary who is (was) engaged to a warehouse guy who is completely wrong for her. Jim and Pam get along great and have been friends and flirting for a long time. (There is a huge block of fans who dream of the day Jim and Pam get together)

Another fantastic character is Dwight. Dwight is an uptight…well, it’s better if you see for yourself.

The Office is truly in the top three best shows on t.v. Perhaps THE best.

I only watched the Office by accident because I love my name is Earl, he is so cute trying to make up for all the wrong he did. 😃 and his crazy sidekicks make the show. Also Earl reminds me of my brother-in-law. But the Office is funny too. We need a comedy break once in a while:D
 
I was watching some totally unrelated clip on youtube when I clicked onto one of the “Story of Pam and Jim” segments just out of curiosity…and there went about 3 hours of my night, as I was instantly hooked & watched all 15 clips right then!!

The whole team–writers, directors, actors–somehow NAILED dead-on several of my office experiences!
 
I love The Office! I even have a Dwight Schrute bobble head on my desk at work. So far, only about 3 other people know who it is-- the rest just think it is cute. LOL
 
I love The Office! I really liked this week’s ep, “Diwali.” He’s just such a buffoon haha. Very well cast.

Same here, or close to it. I had heard that it was a funny show but hadn’t seen it. I was flipping channels and caught the last 15 minutes or so and loved it, but there was no way to catch up.
I later happened to be youtubeing and wondered if there was anything on The Office. I watched bits and pieces and longer funny segments (and of course all the Jim & Pam I could) for the next 3 or 4 hours (don’t worry boss–I was at home) and did it again the next night.
That’s also how I found out the British version is so vulgar.

As for matching characters for real-life equivalents:
I had it in the back of my head that I was a semi-Jim kind of person for our office but twice in one day I found myself making little “funny” comments or sayings “Michael Scott” had made and to my horror realized I was more like him than I knew.:o

I love this show! Unfortunately, I also love Ugly Betty in the same timeslot, so I am constantly clicking back and forth.

The Office is every office co-worker I’ve ever worked with all rolled up into these characters, it’s just plain hilarious!

I think I will be getting the series on DVD when it comes out. Will be the first for me, but it will be funny for years to come.
 
I like The Office, but I think the British version is much funnier. The guy who plays the boss on the British show is so good at being an idiot, jerk who thinks he is a people person and a fun guy. I recommend renting the British version if you like the American office. Trust me, I am not one of those people who usually like British comedy. The only two British comedies that have ever made me laugh are Monty Python and the Office. Most of the other ones are not funny.
