I saw this series on dvd on sale and was wondering if it would be worth getting. I heard that it made fun of religious people.

this would be a great DVD set to get if you want to fantasize about what would have happened if Kerry got elected.

How often have you watched this show?

The West Wing is an excellently written show that is very dramatic and entertaining. Before I was Catholic, I loved it. The president in the show was intelligent, compassionate and liberal. He was everything that George Bush was not (I had bought into the MSM portrayal of Bush as a bumbling idiot).

Now I watch it and I feel a bit sad. The president is Catholic. He goes to confession and Mass, which is awesome. But he also supports abortion and other non-Catholic ideals. Unfortunately, he would not be the perfect president, and now I know that.

It’s still a good shwo, but I just don’t want to watch it anymore.

I agree, the West Wing is a good show, but it suffers from the same naivete that afflicts all left-wing enterprises.

It’s a good show. Yes, the President is Catholic. He’s a good guy in a lot of ways, but he is pro-choice. The show, however, isn’t really about politics. If the show bothers you because he’s a bit of a liberal, then you should see a dermatologist about getting some thicker skin.

I started watching it in the second season because I was intrigued by the M.S. storyline. I wanted to see how that played out. But I finally tired of how all the characters have the same manner of speaking. Have you noticed it? It’s sort of a blase, super-impressed-with-myself style of speaking. And they are constantly giving each other lessons on the ozone layer or the plight of the Iowa farmer. Can’t they come up with a more interesting way to provide exposition?

The character Amy, who Josh dated a few seasons ago, pretty much sent me over the edge. I just wanted to slap her!

I boycotted the show when the charcters began to give political advice to the country. I thought they stepped over the edge and I did not want to add to their delusion. I haven’t gone back to it.

Anybody watch it? I hadn’t watched it in a long time, but I recently picked up a few episodes, and I’ve found myself addicted again. I’m starting to think its one of the best-written shows of my life time; the whole thing is just well done. Any favorite episodes or anything?

I’ll go with the obvious choice of Two Cathedrals, which always makes me cry. Very well done, especially the Latin bit.

I agree! There have been few series as well written or as well acted! All of the actors were at their peak! Each were cast in some of their best roles ever. We called it the fastest hour on TV! And you always left the show each evening wishing we had a president as intelligent, competent, personable, or patriotic, as Martin Sheen portrayed, or staff as competent, as that group.

It was too long ago to remember specific episodes. I might consider buying the DVD’s, though, if I find those.

I’d like to watch the entire series, but from the beginning and in order. However, I’m not sure I want to do that strongly enough to buy all the DVD sets.

And yes, I’m smart enough not to get carried away by all the leftist Hollywood drivel in the series.
