Twins and reduction

If I live to be 1000, I will never understand how some people can treat their children. What is even worse is what happens when this child gets older and finds out mom killed his/her twin because it seemed like it would be “to hard to raise.” Frankly, I don’t think this woman should be allowed to raise any children… :nope:

One woman said she would tell her daughter so she would understand “choices” I know I would be, if that child, “What, you killed my brother or sister?”
Some want a certain sex, its crazy. Twins have higher risks, but there are so many and most are fine. I had mine 3 weeks early but they had great scores and went home in 2 days.
What you do for one, you do for 2.
I’m glad one doctor stopped it, it just isn’t right.

I am the dad of twin girls… Now 32 years old… We had little money to raise them, but we never thought of aborting them… They were born 3 years after their older sister.

We weren’t catholic in 1975 and my wife was on birth control. My wife stopped the pill and within days conceived our oldest daughter… To her surprise, when she visited her OB doctor for her first visit after conception the doctor informed her that because she conceived so soon after stopping the pill the baby may have birth defects. He asked her if she wanted to abort… She became nauseated that the idea and said “No, I want this baby… No matter what”

We were blessed with three healthy girls… All have been a joy… Sure, we have had the typical fights when they were teens… We didn’t have they money to give them a luxurious childhood like many in our neighborhood… But we were blessed (and still are)… Thank You Jesus… 🙂

I read that article, it was so chilling from the get-go:
“Things would have been different if we were 15 years younger or if we hadn’t had children already or if we were more financially secure,” she said later. “If I had conceived these twins naturally, I wouldn’t have reduced this pregnancy, because you feel like if there’s a natural order, then you don’t want to disturb it. But we created this child in such an artificial manner — in a test tube, choosing an egg donor, having the embryo placed in me — and somehow, making a decision about how many to carry seemed to be just another choice. The pregnancy was all so consumerish to begin with, and this became yet another thing we could control.”
“Consumerish”. Quite. Children are no longer blessings, but expensive accessories.
I was stupefied by the doctors’ questioning the ethics of reducing twins or reducing multiples below twins – I mean if you believe in “choice” where do you get off criticising any abortion?

I had a similar thing happen to me when my now ex girlfriend was pregnant with my now 6 year old daughter. At the time I was not only not a Catholic but also pro-choice. I never liked the idea of abortion, but did not want to impose my views on others. At any rate, when my ex was about 3 months pregnant, her doctor asked if we want a test for down syndrome. Now you have to understand I was already talking to the baby and sleeping with my hand on her tummy every night. This was not just some baby, this was MY baby. The first thing I asked when they asked about the test was what kind of treatment they had for it, thinking they now had some way of helping down syndrome. When they told me of their “treatment” my jaw dropped, they wanted to kill MY child because it was not perfect, I don’t think I have ever been that upset in my life.
