The response to “Live long and prosper” is “Peace and long life.”That is funny. What happens if there is a fellow Trekker at Mass? Should we also say “Live long and propser?”
LOL

Which interestingly enough, the satanic hand gesture, is also the hand gesture of Southern Methodist University. The explanation is that it’s supposed to be look like a running Mustang.No.Our Hook em Horns was invented by a male Longhorn cheerlerader who wound up being a state district judge. The symbol that you are thinking of involves using the thumb and the pinky.
Yes, I believe that the hand gesture mentioned is supposed to represent the Hebrew letter shin. As far as I am aware, though, in Israel it is used as a visual for the word shalom (in its meaning of “peace” rather than “hello”).The rabbinical hand gesture that birthed the Vulcan Salute actually is a representation of the Hebrew letter shin, which is the first letter of the word “Shaddi” (sp?), which if I remember correctly is a word for God. And I do think it’s a bit more appropriate for that than the V peace sign. I did have someone tell me “Nanoo Nanoo” once when I flashed it…

:: Falls off chair laughing, laughs even harder when she realizes she’s doing that a lot tonight:: Not much of a Trekkie, but if I saw someone do this at Mass, I’d be grinning like a loon.Isn’t that particular gesture the American equivalent of the middle finger? Oy, I can imagine how it would be considered rude… When people have given me the peace sign during mass, being the Star Trek fan I am, I’ve slipped and have given people the Vulcan Salute.
God Bless!

The sign of peace should only be given to those who are in close proximity, meaning next to you on either side, in front and in back. It should be done soberly. Flashing the peace sign may have been great at Woodstock, but, not during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The Sister who is the principal of our school at my parish gives the peace sign regularly when she is too far a distance to give a handshake. I see nothing worng with it. Why is there so much ado…about nothing?![]()
Didn’t Churchill use that gesture during WWII…meaning victory? However, I am from the Irish persausion-in light of the black & tan that he was responsible for:irish3: :shamrock2: :kissme: I wouldn’t be surprised if he meant it as the middle finger.Isn’t that particular gesture the American equivalent of the middle finger? Did I say it was not done soberly? No, I did not. I think Sister who is well into her 70s knows full well she is at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and not at Woodstock. The sign of peace should only be given to those who are in close proximity, meaning next to you on either side, in front and in back. I knew I couldn’t be the only person to have done this!!!Isn’t that particular gesture the American equivalent of the middle finger? Reply:I don’t want to stir up another Sign of Peace hornet’s nest, but does the Church have any opinion on the use of the V-fingered “peace” or “victory” sign when exchanging the Sign of Peace? I have not read any statements or commentary about it, but it seems to me more of a political gesture, and can be quite rude (at least in England) if the back of the hand faces forward. What is the origin of this gesture?
