It seems I haven’t gifted this forum with my semi-scrupulous ramblings for a while (kidding).
  1. My first question regards an incident where my mother was asking me a question while I was busy untangling wires and hooking up my computer. As I was getting frustrated, I kept giving rather vague answers (whatever, I don’t know, sure, etc) in a rude tone. I understand that this was wrong and I let my annoyance get the best of me, but did my rudeness count as serious disrespect?
  2. While talking to a friend on the phone, he asked me if I had wanted to hear “what happened between (insert group of people)”. I knew this was probably gossip, yet I felt that if I said no I would have came off as rude and it would not have gone well with him. As he went on about people all I could do was answer him uncomfortably with “oh I see”, or “so he did that?..oh”, etc. Did my actions count as full consent?
I apologize if my posts seem like things that should be discussed in confession, but these things always seem to occur in the timespan between reconciliation and mass.

In my opinion if you are looking at your actions and questioning them, you are in a good place mentally and will look to not do them in the future. As long as you try not to do these things again, and realize you did wrong, in my opinion you are already forgiven.

First, untangling wires from your computer does not seem like an urgent matter, kindness and respect says put the wires down for a minute and answer your mother. By your actions, you told your mom that a knotted bit of copper and plastic is more important than her. Give her a hug and aplolgize.

Second, it sounds as if you participated in the sin of detraction - words that are meant to make other people look bad. Take it to confession.

Next time when your friend asks “do you want to know…” simply say “Nope.”

That would not be the case for mortal sins.

Regarding the wires. No that does not seem to be grave matter. Perhaps venial or maybe no sin at all in that case.

And remember one also has to have full knowledge and full consent for something that is a grave matter --to sin mortally.
