There really is no way to tie these together, except to say that I’ve been thinking on one of them for a while, and the other one popped into my head today, so I just decided to get on with it and ask them both.
First Question:
At [one of] the churches I attend, mass concludes, but moves directly into additional prayers after mass, led by the Priest. Normally, I would stay for these, but doing so can put me uncomfortably close to missing the available meal hours at the University. Is it considered bad form to leave the church at this point?
Second Question:
When does a daily fast end for Catholics? I know in other faiths, fasts end at sunset, and that, even in the RCC, a mass attended Saturday evening meets the requirement, so what about fasts? When we fast on an occasion, such as Fridays during Lent, do we (or are we permitted) to break the fast once it gets dark? At Midnight? Not until we get up in the next morning?
Of course, I’m not advocating that you simply skimp on lunch and dinner, only to sit down to a feast at 8 PM, so this was really more of a technical curiosity.
