Two reactions to "I AM" in the Gospel

  1. I showed you how I AM was to mean I AM BEING
  2. The translation renders “I will be” when it is about the future. But in the Case of God speaking, it is problematic to say that his name is I WILL BE, as I showed you. Therefore the translation.
The only thing i read was a bunch of nonsense designed to reverse the true meaning of the text into what it is not. You would make a great J Witness, as they do this with the phrase ‘there is no other god besides Me.’ to mean there are multiple gods. Which is just as false as your nonsense.
, too.

No idea what you are ranking about.

The Greek is not meaningless. It was the version of the Scriptures that were used during the time of Christ and it’s the version the Church accepted as inspired. The Hebrew language is really secondary.
That’s interesting, The original text revealed by G-d to His prophets is secondary to a translation that is faulty and not as good as the original manuscripts.

The Septuagint was done by Jews for Jews and is the received and authoritative text of the Christian Church. What Jews say about our Scriptures is really irrelevant. 😉

The original LXX was no longer extant in the days of Iesus. And the original LXX was done by the seventy elders for the Greek ruler of their land [he lived in Alexandria.]

The original LXX was only of the Torah and was translated into high Greek and not common Greek. Also, each of the seventy elders translated nineteen errors into the text of their translation. Knowing that if any discrepancies were found that they were to be put to death, by the Greek king.

The Jews say nothing about the Catholic Greek translation as they could care less.

That’s good. So what your Hebrew says is not relevant to Christian doctrine. We have to use what we have received. The Greek uses the phrase “ego eimi” in both Exodus and John.

I wasn’t trying to reverse the meaning, but to show how difficult it is to translate the Name of God in His eternity coming to us in time.

Ask a JW if he has many gods. Or what do you mean by gods? Angels, humans? The bible itself call angels and men gods from time to time, as a mean to show the power on men, and you know this. Moses was made a god to Pharaoh, for instance. JW do at best see these as minor gods, but not the one true God Jehovah.

I am talking about answers we give to both Muslims and Jews in Order to show that Jesus is the Lord, as I did.
  • In John 17, we show the Unity of Father and Son.
For now I won’t remind the topic of this thread 😛 because it is nice to have these opinions too. Tanachanswers, if you could give evidence with your opinions, it would be halpful.
I can write about the two natures of Christ, would you like to read this?

You are trying to make a mountain out of level ground. Take your eternity and throw it into the trash, where it belongs. Then just translate the words as they are.

By your logic we are all part of the godhead:
(Joh 17:21 BBE) May they all be one! Even as you, Father, are in me and I am in you, so let them be in us, so that all men may come to have faith that you sent me.

Not particularly as you would not like my opinion. Iesus was a man that was a 'magid/traveling preacher man.

G-d is the only true G-d from before time until the end of all, as the bible has always taught.

καὶ εἶπεν ὁ Θεὸς πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων· ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ ὤν

And God spoke to Moses, saying, I am the one who is - Exodus 3:14

πρὶν Ἀβραὰμ γενέσθαι ἐγώ εἰμι

before Abraham came to be, I am - John 8:58

τίνα ζητεῖτε; ἀπεκρίθησαν αὐτῷ· Ἰησοῦν τὸν Ναζωραῖον. λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· ἐγώ εἰμι

“Whom are you seeking?” They answered Him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am.” - John 18:4-5

I would ask you a question. If Jesus was simply using “I am” as a predicate nominative why did the people present react so violently, in the first case picking up stones to kill him and in the second case falling flat on their faces? What’s the explanation?

I can surely translate I AM WHAT I AM, or as you wish to. I makes no difference in the sense of that NAME. Impossible to understand, yet needed to be explained. Or should we all know hebrew to know God? No, it is not the language that gives this knowledge.

If I throw eternity away (and philosophy for that matter), how can we attempt to grasp even a little bit of the Nature of God (and this is needed)?

Hum, no. By my logic, words have different meanings. You have the Son, created sons, adoptive sons. Same word, different meaning.

Jesus surely was a man, thank God he was!

"G-d is the only true G-d from before time until the end of all, as the bible has always taught. "
I agree completely.

Which is why the Rabbis teach that all translations are lies.
πρὶν Ἀβραὰμ γενέσθαι ἐγώ εἰμι

Is everything in the book of John the absolute truth ?

You will not like my answer.

G-d in His choice of Name, is stating that He will not be boxed in by scholars or theologians.

Even if you keep eternity you will never grasp the least bit of G-d without first accepting His Word as it is written.
Hum, no. By my logic, words have different meanings. You have the Son, created sons, adoptive sons. Same word, different meaning.
And by taking your definitions of the Hebrew words from the Greek you will never understand anything.

This is not biblically accurate. As long as you do not submit to the Will of G-d …
You can’t know the will of God unless you know God and you can’t know God except through His Son. Either way I’m not sure what this has to do with the OP. If you are going to have these kinds of discussions with Christians you can’t start with the premise that our Holy Scriptures are bogus.

The Word of God exists before Scripture…
We certainly won’t grasp the Nature of God, but what He has revealed, this we have.

Not only rabbis say translation are lies (or, I would say, betrayals). But how would you translate anything then? As I said, Judaism would have difficulties in imposing itself as true and universal religion, if it pretended for his followers to perfectly understand and read hebrew. It is not about Scripture only. But Scripture has a meaning. That meaning is rendered.

…Scripture only…😃

They came after the closing of the canon of the Jewish Scripture. I’m merely discussing Scripture from the Scriptures of Iesus. I was upfront about my beliefs, and no one is obligated to respond to me.

By 30 AD, Jews still used many different collections of writings. Are ou talking about the council of Jamnia? It was in 90 AD, if it ever took place. So, to say they came after the closing is not accurate. By 90, Christians knew at least 3 Gospels, the Acts of the Aposltes plus a number of letters.

But, Jewish children are taught from first grade to read write and speak Hebrew, Eastern Aramaic, western Aramaic, and Yiddish. So as such they can read and understand the bible in it’s original language. They also pray in these languages.

Judaism does not present itself as the universal religion. In fact, if you went to convert, you would be told go away, we do not want you.

Judaism was set up by G-d to be an example to the world. Not that we are living up to it.

The Jewish canon was closed around the time of the completion of the 2nd Temple.
