Two tv actors passed away today

Oh, man.

I am guessing Dave Madden is a Catholic. His IMDB bio says that his sister is a religious sister (Sister Mary Roberts) who taught Catholic grade school.

I remember Russell Johnson from Gilligan’s Isle (now, all the male leads from that show are deceased…), but also the SF films “It Came From Outer Space” and “This Island Earth,” and narrating the anime series Robotech. His IMDB bio mentions “During World War II, he enlisted to become an aviation cadet and rose to the officer’s rank of First Lieutenant, under the service number 765 497. Flew as Bombadier in B-25 aircraft on a total of 44 combat missions over the Netherlands, East Indies, and the Phillipines. World War II decorations include the Bronze Star, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three service stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one service star, and the World War II Victory Medal with Honorable Service Lapel Button. Earned his Purple Heart (for injuries during battle) when the B-24 Liberator bomber he was a crewman on was shot down during a bombing run against Japanese targets in the Philippine Islands in March 1945.”

I grew up watching those guys on TV. They’ll be missed.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

May they rest in peace. I did not watch either show although both were popular. I knew the “Professor” mainly for his role on an episode of The Twilight Zone with Albert Salmi, whom he rescued from the hangman’s noose and, unfortunately, brought into the modern era.

I had my picture taken with Dave Madden when he did a dinner theatre gig. He was very gracious.

I remember Johnson from the sci-fi movies too. I had never heard about his illustrious military career until now. Funny the things we think are more important…

Actually, a fourth did as well. Roger Lloyd-Pack, best known as Barty Crouch (Sr.) in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and who also played John Lumic, the creator of the Cybermen in Doctor Who, died today.

I’m too young to have been around when Gilligan’s Island was on, but I grew up hooked on the reruns. If I’m not mistaken, Ginger and Mary Ann are the only surviving actors now. May Russell and David be in that great island in the sky now. :o

I forgot he was in that one! Salmi was a very underrated actor that you saw all over in the 1960s.
