I’ve looked a great deal and cannot find an explanation on how to tie or fasten a traditional fascia for the cassock. By traditional, I simply mean one not fastened by velcro like seemlingly all modern ones. How did they use to tie them? Descriptions, pictures, diagrams, etc. would be helpful if they exist.

The ones I’ve seen with a tie just had a couple of ribbons, and tied with a bow under the flap of the drops, where the Velcro goes now. I don’t own one like that though. Velcro works just fine for me.

I don’t wear a cassock, preferring American style slacks, shirts and neckties.

However, when I bought my athletic shoes a few years ago, I looked for and bought velcro instead of shoes with shoe laces. I don’t understand the problem with velcro either.

I don’t know about Velcro on cassocks or shoes, but I don’t like it on anything that gets laundered frequently. It will wear out very quickly. (My experience with this is cloth diaper covers. 😅)

I think the first post answered this question so I won’t suggest searching etc.

What color is yours? Black? Or are you a Monsignor?

The ribbons answer is helpful. I was asking more from a historical perspective, not a personal one. I don’t have a preferrence for either but simply doubt the fascia was always worn with ribbons or velcro, and I wanted to inquire if there was another manner of fastening it.

I have one (as a head MC of a parish- I wear it with pastoral permission) that has metal ‘snaps’ or rivets
